October was a rough month in fandom - lots of crazyness - but also lots of awesome fic to make up for it.
Fic I recced
I finally got back to reccing over at
stargateficrec after a few months off. I grabbed Sara O'Neill after discovering, to my shock, that nobody had recced that amazing woman.
Heart of Glass by
pepper_field [pre-series how Jack and Sara met awesomeness with an ending punch in the gut]
Decade by
nomadicwriter [season 9 fantastic random meeting in a DC coffee house - Sara and Jack feel so amazingly real]
Coda by
dknightshade [tag to "Cold Lazarus" that hurts in all the right ways]
Syllepsis by
paian [really wonderful Sara for the Jack/Daniel fan]
Something Old by
moonshayde [another season 9 random meeting - this time in a bar and equally awesome]
Next month I think I've re-grabbed Sam Carter. I thought I should grab Daniel too since he looked unclaimed and he's the only original member of SG-1 I haven't recced yet. Maybe next month.
Fic I wrote!
Look at me! I actually wrote fic after a much-too-long dry spell! Three whole stories! And I wrote Vala for the first time and Teal'c PoV for the first time. *rocks out*
The Bullet Struck Hard, But I Do Not Bleed | (PG) | 1506 words | 10/9/07
Gen, Teal'c and Daniel Friendship, Five ways Teal'c and Daniel work past Share's death
Because Daniel Jackson is still weak, Teal'c carries Sha're's body through the 'gate to Abydos. He wants her body's final memory to be of strength and warmth and friendship, not of the cold, hard boxes the Tau'ri use to transport injured and fallen comrades.
Chasing Ghosts | (barely NC-17) | 2602 words | 10/26/07
Vala Mal Doran, Daniel Jackson set in "Ties That Bind", written for
sg1_by_handTo be honest, after adding getting-burned-to-death to the list of physical tortures she'd rather not know the sensation of, she deserved a little pampering, even if Daniel wouldn't help.
Please Hang Up And Try Again | (PG-13) | 3643 words | 10/29/07
Gen, Daniel Jackson, Jack O'Neill, Sam Carter, Teal'c. Five phone calls Daniel never got
Hey, Daniel. I know you can't get this message and I feel silly leaving it but Colonel O'Neill refuses to talk about you and Teal'c is being Teal'c and General Hammond told me yesterday that I'd learn to live with not knowing where you are or…what. And I guess I just got too used to you being there for me to talk to. And…okay, maybe this wasn't my best idea.
I also
Posted some WiPs for
sg_fignewton's genfic day.
Fic I loved this month (so not a comprehensive list)
Lovely by Martha - an SG-1 crossover with The Sentinel and a wonderful AU play off "The Light." I've never seen Sentinel - my only canon knowledge is "there're these guys named Jim and Blair and I think they work and/or live together and I think maybe Jim has some sort of super powers" and I was still totally and completely hooked on this story. Wonderful Daniel and great Jack and Teal'c and now I keep wandering over looking at Sentinel fic and I don't need another hole in my head.
Eleven Moments by
ladyflowdi - I actually read this back in January but was reminded of it this month. It's an SGA/SG-1 crossover - a Sam-focused future fic and it hurts so much in all the right places but it's so very good. Sam and Daniel and Rodney and John and Earth and Atlantis and...
Fve true things about Sam Carter that she doesn't know about herself by
paian - written over at
sg1_five_things and OMG SO GOOD. Sad and happy and wonderful and all so true.
a timestamp to Ithaca by
niamaea - Daniel helping Teal'c pack to go rejoin the Jaffa. Wonderful, fantastic, brilliant Daniel and Teal'c friendship. So much said in so few words. I also finally read her
A Million Years Into the Sky which is one of those rare fics that actually drove me to tears. Future!fic that is so beautiful in its sad rightness and almost makes you cry with the quiet "this is life" feeling to it. I only hope our team could actually go out this well.
Splash_the_cat gave us
Five nightmares/memories Sam still experiences with a PTSD-like intensity and the whole thing is wonderful and creepy and feels so true - from Jolinar to Fifth and everything else. So fantastic. Then she wrote the SGA "Reunion" tag
When I go into the grass of the sea floor, I will go alone which is John pestering Sam to let him go after Elizabeth until finally she cracks and tells him about Fifth and it's a wonderful, amazing, perfect look into Sam struggling to switch from team member to being in charge and of dealing with new people and a new place and what happened to her before and just go read it already.
Splash also wrote
Information Doesn't Kill You in which Vala distracts Sam from Daniel's briefing by pulling up porn on her laptop and it's possible I enabled this fic and it's possible it's still really funny.
And, to fill out "this post is devoted to Splash" she pointed me to her
Day of Rest which is about the best post-Gemini fic I could have ever asked for. Sam dealing and not dealing with all that's happened with the Replicators and just so amazing. *squishes Sam* *squishes Splash*
beanpot wrote crack!fic and it was good! Specifically
Insert Appropriate Cracky Title Here - Sam-and-Rodney-turned-into-kids fic in which we see how fast two brilliant 8 year olds can destroy Atlantis and every inch of how awesome Teal'c is.

Decree Nisi - Jack and Sara and that year between the movie and COTG. Let me just say that it's a rare fic to actually make me cry and this story is fantastically wonderful but it HURTS so much.
rigel_7 wrote
Dust in the Wind - a bit of Moebius!Daniel cut from a different fic that was too amazing to leave to the wolves. I love the sense she gives us of time passing and the unrelenting sand. She also wrote
Five Times that Jack Never Learned which is a great episode-related character study and I can't even tell you which part is best because they're all so good - Sara and Sam and Teal'c and Ba'al and go read!
The Things Which Are Caesar's by Wintertime - travel into SGA land to meet Five Gods John Sheppard never worshipped - a fantastic romp into AU land with each piece hitting harder than the one before - from Goa'uld at McMurdo to Rodney at Arcturus.
shutthef_up gave us a tag to Broca Divide in which Daniel comes home with
Tiny Livestock. Features poor, long-suffering Daniel and professional Janet and joking Jack and a Jaffa cure from Teal'c.
dknightshade wrote "Undending" fic!!!!
In His Mind There Was Still Cello Music is Sam and Teal'c and Teal'c after it's all over having dinner with Jack and it's the most wonderful of gutpunches and of Jack knowing exactly where and how hard to push.
6beforelunch gave us Cam and his father right before the program goes public in
For the World is Full and I Have Touched the Sky and I love, love every single word of it.
aurora_novarum wrote another "Reunion" tag -
Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow - Sam's walk from her lab to the gateroom and the teamy goodness the episode couldn't do.
Finally,
synecdochic added more to her Eurydice-verse ("the accidental series where their walls are built with cannonballs and their motto is 'don't tread on me' -- the one where all the damage doesn't reset at the end of 42 minutes."). Sometimes this 'verse works for me and sometimes it's too much for me, but she posted
The Same Story the Crow Told Me - where her verse diverges a bit more strongly from the show in the back half of season 10. Daniel appearing in the dreams of each of his team members and every single one is different and right and whole and real and breath-taking. I *think* this can be read and appreciated even if you've never read another story in this 'verse and I think it's also safe to recommend to gen-only folk. Really really go read it. Really. What is says about everyone and about Daniel's relationship with them is stunningly well done.
And, really finally, go read the fic posted at
jack_built - a very fun AU universe to play in. I haven't been able to read all of it, but I've enjoyed what I've seen.
And go write and read comment!fic for the
pornucopia.
