His hand on her thigh, traveling up, up, up and her breath catches in her throat, heart beating rapidly against her rib cage. She feels eighteen again, carefree and passionate - back when she used to know what passion was - and her fingers start with the buttons of his shirt, so certain and sure. Lips brush against his.
“I’ve never done this before,” she breathes, settling a thigh on either side of his.
“I hardly think this is the time for false modesty,” Rufus grins, lips nipping at her neck, the hollow in her collar bone. She shudders. “You forget I know you.”
“No,” she giggles - yes, giggles, she’s surprised, too. “I meant,” she starts, but his hand is in-between her legs, her skirt bunched around her waist. Her fingers grip the back of the chair, her knuckles turning a pearl white. “I meant,” she starts again, her voice shaky. “The cheating on my husband part.”
There’s a moment, a look, a palpable silence. He stares up at her and she down at him and the air seems too thick, the space between them too short. His hands still on her hips, grip tightly, and there’s a look, a question. Lily feels suffocated almost, her face flushing crimson, but she doesn't look away. She knows she should move away, end this before she starts down a path where there is no turning back, but she doesn't. She kisses him instead.
Skin sliding against skin, her shirt next to his on the floor. Fingers trail over skin and bone, remembering, making a memory. They’ve done this before.
A ragged breath - his, maybe hers; they all seem to intermix and blend together. Lily can no longer tell where he ends and she begins.
