Jean-Claude marveled at how alike they were, his necromancer and his wolf. Both so passionate, so fearful of becoming the monster, not looking at themselves and blaming the other. Neither would listen to Jean-Claude's advice; in the end, he decided to give none.
More than that, Jean-Claude realized that neither of them would see how careful he was being. Both knew how he felt about Anita, the way his love for her burned.
They chose not to see how he felt about Richard. That suited Jean-Claude quite well.
It was quite the little triangle in which Jean-Claude had entangled himself.
