Title: Green
Characters: Anita, Manny
Words: 100
Notes: Set before the series begins. Manny attempts to teach a young Anita the tricks of the trade.
"Now what?"
Manny sighed. He'd rescued young Anita Blake from the boss, but now she was his apprentice. She was quite a handful.
"Before we can sacrifice and carve the circle, we need to anoint ourselves with ointment." He opened the cold stone jar. Anita peeked inside.
"Cool. Green and glowy," she said, grinning like a kid with candy. "It even smells green. How come?"
"Rosemary and graveyard mould." He held out the jar. "Now, spread some on your cheeks, forehead, hands and over your heart."
She frowned. "Okay, but don't look," she ordered, lifting her shirt.
Manny sighed again.

Title: Black and White
Characters: Anita
Words: 100
Notes: Set some time after Guilty Pleasures. Our innocent little Anita has naughty thoughts about Jean-Claude.
I dropped my jacket on the couch and undid my belt to remove my holster. So tired.
I'd just spent an hour with Jean-Claude at his newly redecorated office at Guilty Pleasures. The decor was very black and white, like sitting inside a domino. He wanted me to play scary as his human servant. As if.
As I lay in bed, I wondered if he used the color scheme to look more alive, his pale coloring after he fed more human against the backdrop. Then I wondered if that pale flush covered his entire body, and blushed in the darkness.

Title: Blue
Characters: Jean-Claude, Jason
Words: 100
Jean-Claude settled his pomme de sange against his chest, and drew the werewolf's head to the side so his neck showed in a clean line.
"Is there a problem, Master?" Jason asked, as Jean-Claude hesitated.
The vampire stared down at the faint blue veins under the skin on Jason's neck. He licked his lower lip in anticipation of sinking his fangs through Jason's skin, reaching down to the depths of his life's blood and feasting on his energy.
"Non, no problem," JC said. He placed a light kiss to Jason's neck, and as the young man shivered, he bit down.

Title: Pink
Characters: Anita, Zerbowski
Words: 100
Notes: Just another day on the job.
I stared at what remained of the massacre's youngest victim. I had hair over my eyes, but my gloves were covered in blood. Choices, choices.
Zerbrowski came to the door of the pink little-girl bedroom. "What do you think?"
I looked down at the shredded ruin of the child's body. "I can't see anything that points to the preternatural. It's vicious, but..."
"... was probably human," Zerbrowksi finished. "Damn."
I sighed. I was getting too old for this shit. "Sometimes I think the only reason vampires and lycanthropes can be so vicious is that they used to be human."

Title: Orange
Characters: Cherry, Zane
Words: 100
Notes: Set after Narcissus in Chains.
Cherry woke up, suddenly. The street sounds outside the apartment were quiet.
Zane was lying on his side, facing away from her. Faint light peeked through the curtains, shining on his brilliantly blue hair. He was awake.
"Hey."
Zane didn't move. Cherry rolled over, pressed herself along his back. She ran her fingers through his hair.
"I think the one color of hair I've never seen you with is orange."
Zane let out a long breath. "I did, once. Raina liked it. Lots."
Cherry kissed the back of his neck and stroked his hair until he finally fell back asleep.

Title: Purple
Characters: Nathaniel, Anita
Words: 100
Notes: Let's end on a mushy note. After Incubus Dreams.
Nathaniel stared at the flimsy box. The shiny wrapping paper had fallen to the floor.
"What's wrong?" Anita asked, kneeling on the bedroom floor. "Wrong color?"
Nathaniel looked at her. She was so worried. The deep purple robe, warm in velvet and silk, spilled across his lap.
"Why did you get it?" he asked.
"I thought you'd like it," Anita stammered. "I thought you liked purple. D'you want a different color?"
"No." No one had ever bought him anything like this. He'd gotten clothing, but only what people wanted to see him in, not because he'd like it. "It's perfect."
