sabriel-0405 Asher tied his hair back. All that gold no longer covered his face so strategically. His chest was bare and his pants looked like someone had taken a decorative punch to them. His scars were laid out in all their glory.
He had been invited to a Halloween party. Just the staff of Guilty Pleasures and their friends. Since Halloween was supposed to be scary, at least here in America, he would go as himself. It didn’t get scarier than that. Still, he felt obligated to add a few finishing touches. He stared at the mirror and picked up the dark red makeup crayon. He plumped his lips and stained the corners of his mouth. A vampire well fed. He added jagged, bloody cuts on his chest. Nails raking down his skin. He smiled, showing his fangs to the mirror. What was a feeding without a little pain?
“Are you certain, mon ami?” asked Jean-Claude from the doorway. He was decked out as a French peasant. It suited him as well as his courtier clothes did. “Only you find your image fearsome. Ma petite is likely to find you irresistible.”
Asher smiled, genuinely this time. “There have been surprising benefits.”
