Since I haven't had the chance to update until now, I thought I'd share a little story with all of you.

I was on my way to a store meeting at PetCo. It's nighttime. I pulled down Hayes, then turned down Shoreline (which connects to Lakeside Circle - which is where the mall is). There are two lanes on Shoreline in the direction I was going. I was in the far right lane when I saw all the cars getting over into the left lane. I then saw why - a car was in the right lane with it's flashers on. Okay. So I get into the left lane to get around this car. Meanwhile, I'm leaving my boyfriend a message on his voicemail. As I start to get closer to this car in the right lane, I see why it is pulled over - a kitten (no more than 5 weeks old) is running along the curb. I gasp, throw down the phone, throw the car in park and jump out. I start running after this kitten. I didn't bother to put my blinkers on or pull over to the right line. I just STOPPED and pretty much said fuck you! to anyone who had to get by - this was for a tiny kitten so come on! I didn't even think about it. It was just a given reaction. I couldn't really pull over anyway because that's where the kitten was. So I'm running after this kitten, trying to pick it up - it ran along the curb, then across the road as I flailed my arms for the cars to stop so the kitten wouldn't be hit - it runs back towards me and then seemingly goes into the undercarriage of the woman's car that was originally stopped in the right lane.

It was a whole cat family - a mother and 3-4 babies that this woman saw. Not feral - more like a cruel drop-off. This woman was riding in the car with her daughter driving when they saw the cats and pulled over.

We could hear the kitten meowing in the daughter's car, but couldn't see it. We were looking and looking. Meanwhile, the girl's mother calls to me and says she caught one of the kittens. I immediately go over to her to see the kitten. It's shaking - obviously cold and scared and cars are driving past faster than they should be. I take the kitten and put it inside my sweatshirt and stand and the side of the road looking around to see if any of the other kittens were around. I call PetCo, because I'm gonna be late for this MANDATORY "be there or just about lose your job" type of meetings. I talked to Carol, who says she would have done the same thing.

So, I explain to the women that I work at PetCo and that no matter what, this kitten would be taken care of. So, with the kitten zipped into my sweatshirt, I drive to PetCo and arrive late. I go into the store with one of my fleeces wrapped around the kitten. I just got looks from everyone when I got in late - until they saw what I had wrapped in my fleece - a beautiful tortoise-shell 5-week old kitten. Everyone was very understanding and a few people even offered to help if I needed any...

After I got out of the meeting, Anthony was there because I was in the middle of leaving him a voicemail before I saw the kitten then gasped and hung up. He thought I got kidnapped or something and was all worried. So I took the kitten and started to go home when I thought I'd check and see if Sara was up at Denny's, and she was. So, I call her and say, "You don't have to take it, but do you want to see a kitten?" She came out to the parking lot immediately, saw the kitten, and said, "Let's go show Jean!" She then proceeded to take the kitten into Denny's. Everyone fell in love with this cat. Customers were coming up and just saying, "Awww! How cute!" and so on. They didn't care about a kitten being in a restaurant.

So, to make a long story short, I took the kitten home, took care of it for a night, then gave it to my friend Sara. I would have kept it, cause even the dogs loved her, but there's just not enough room and not enough money to take care of another animal.

The kitten is named Pepper. She's very playful and very happy.
