Donate to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and help victims of family violence and sexual assault affected by the disaster in the Gulf Coast. Even in the best of times, people whose lives are devastated by violence and sexual assault are often underserved. This Katrina Relief Fund has been established through an initial gift from the Family Violence Prevention Fund to provide practical support to many of those hardest hit.

This fund assists organizations that have lost considerable infrastructure to process donations themselves. Of course donors are welcome to contribute directly to the following:

Louisiana Domestic Violence Coalition Relief Fund, established to help victims of domestic violence in Louisiana. The Louisiana Coalition will help the FVPF distribute funds in local communities via shelters and outreach programs that have direct links to the survivors of Hurricane Katrina most in need. http://www.lcadv.org/

Louisiana Rape Relief, set up by the Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault, helping sexual assault victims and programs that have been affected by the hurricane. http://www.louisianaraperelief.org/

Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence, hard hit by Katrina, providing critical services to domestic violence victims throughout the state. The Coalition will help the FVPF distribute funds in local communities via shelters and outreach programs that have direct links to the survivors of Hurricane Katrina most in need. http://www.mcadv.org/

We want to hear from you: When you give, please be sure we have your email address so we can keep you updated about the impact your generosity has on people who need it so much. As you hear of good work and success stories in affected areas, tell us. You can always reach us as info@endabuse.org

Give now!

PLEASE TAKE COMFORT IN KNOWING THAT 100% OF YOUR TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION WILL BE PASSED DIRECTLY TO RELIEF EFFORTS WITH NO COSTS DEDUCTED BY THE FVPF.

Louisiana Domestic Violence Victim’s Hurricane Relief Fund

The Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (LCADV), a private 501c3, not-for-profit organization incorporated in 1982, is establishing a Louisiana Domestic Violence Victim’s Hurricane Relief Fund to assist victims of domestic violence and child victimization who are displaced and affected by Hurricane Katrina.

“Four of our domestic violence shelters and two nonresidential programs are completely closed at the time and two or three may be completely destroyed. We have battered women and children who are trying to relocate to safety. Also we have received reports that women are being battered by their partners in the emergency shelters and they need our assistance,” stated Merni Carter, Executive Director of the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She goes on to say, “Sadly domestic violence and child victimization are social problems that do not stop during this natural disaster and with cessation of all direct services in the gulf coast region, a huge metropolitan area of over 1 million people, there is the increased need for relocation and basic monetary assistance is essential for these battered hurricane evacuees.

LCADV is accepting donations that are specifically earmarked to assist battered survivors and their children who have been directly affected/displaced by the hurricane. The donations will be used to assist battered victims from the following parishes in Louisiana: Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines.

The donations will be used for the following purposes:
1. Relocation of domestic violence victims.
2. Purchasing of basic needs, i.e. baby formula, diapers, food, clothing, etc. that could not be met elsewhere.
3. Deposits on houses, electric bills,
4. Car repair, gas, public transportation
5. Medical/prescription needs,
6. Other basic, life sustaining needs

All donations go directly to victims of domestic violence affected by this hurricane and will not be used for any administrative or other purposes.

LCADV is setting up a temporary website to receive donations through a secure online service - VeriSign. http://www.lcadvhrf.org/payment.htm
