Hello, Birdsong Ladies!

We here at Birdsong want to take a brief moment to wish you and your loved ones a happy holiday season!

As many of you know this is a very exciting time for our organization as we are finishing our certifications in Albany and are readying ourselves to begin fundraising!! In addition, we are taking this as an opportunity to announce some very exciting changes in the format of our weekly meetings.

After much consideration we have decided to provide the group a more structured curriculum that we are confident will help all of our survivors build their "coping tool box" through learning more about PTSD, our shared diagnosis.

Beginning next week, Thursday December 6th, the format will be as follows: we will dedicate the first 30-45 minutes of our group to going around and giving each individual an opportunity to share where they are that week emotionally and anything pertinent that happened to them that week. We feel this is an important aspect of the group as we as survivors often ache for a place to vent "uncensored" as to the emotions we grapple with day to day as a result of our PTSD.

The remaining 60-90 minutes of each group meeting will be dedicated to a question and answer style topic-driven talk/exercise led by either Dr. Ann Boyer or myself, Celeste Patton, our group's chief promoter and peer facilitator. Our December Topics are as follows:
  • Thursday December 6th    "Hypervigilance in relationships, learning to trust when boundaries are a must".
  • Thursday December 13th   "Anxiety attacks, taming the beast"
  • Thursday December 20th   "Coping Skills, The good the bad, and the ugly. What we do when we hurt . . . ."
  • Thursday December 27th   "Self-Isolation, breaking those chains"
These topics will be changed monthly depending on your suggestions as to what you feel you need to learn and would like to discuss. We are encouraging all our attendees to e-mail in ideas for future meetings. Whether signed or anonymous, e-mailed or in person, we need and welcome your input.

And as always we want to re-extend an invitation our weekly meetings held each Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on the First floor of The New York Academy of Medicine located at E 103rd Street & 5th Avenue in New York City to all our past attendees, regular attendees, newcomers and sister survivors of every race, age, colour, creed, or sexuality.

Remember ladies, TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG! We really look forward to an exciting upcoming month with you at Birdsong.

Sincerely,
Celeste Patton
