Probably for the best if you haven't read the poem. Although, I will tell you that the poem influenced the author of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Hopefully they edited the flick to cut out certain details that are directly used by Tolkien.

Oh, and if anyone tells you that Beowulf was just like Lord of the Rings, kick them in the ballz.

Yea, I've read the poem and it's great. I can't see how Beowulf could be like Lord of the Rings, just doesnt look as epic to me.

THIS IS SPARTA!!!
I AM BEOWULF!!!

Well, as a movie, I don't see it as being as epic either. In the poem, though, there are events, characters, and language that Tolkien uses in his works almost exactly. In fact, I read a paper about Tolkien's influence on the popularity of Beowulf. JRR Tolkien was a scholar as well as an author. That's why he actually created a real language (elfish or elven, I can't remember how he spells it) for his books.

After we both see it I will tell you what is similar. Some of them are kind of far-fetched, but I know some of them are directly pulled from Beowulf into Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

One thing that keeps me going when pieces of literature are adapted into film is that none of them will ever be as bad as X-men 3.

At least Beowulf isn't played by Halle Berry.

I am by no means a puritan when it comes to screenplay/film adaptations of literature(classical or otherwise), but I don't have high hopes for this and the changes that I have read are in it.

I do however think it will be a pretty big box office success when it comes to money. The technology they use is cheaper then traditional 3-D animation and traditional movie making(and not as good). Therefore, if it does average for a normal movie it will be a huge profit overall.

So, I predict this movie being seen as a success and a future full of Robert Zemeckis' poop.
