Last Saturday night, we went to Calatagan, Batangas. Me,
hey_jay,
huling_yosi and her relatives, and
maidita. It was a pretty long drive that since I was awake since Friday night, I think I probably managed to nap for a cumulative of an hour. And speaking of sleep, only got to sleep again on the way back, Sunday night.
The Visible Milky Way
We immediately headed off to the beach after depositing our things in the supposedly haunted house. The night sky was really amazing. It was the first time that I was able to see the edge of the Milky Way, the river. The only problem was there were so many stars that I wasn't able to identify any constellation, not even Orion or the dog that's following him to the other side of the river. That was the ultimate measure of visibility. If you look at the picture at the left (which I took from Google Images :)), just imagine that the sky is really dark except for the stars and that thing that looks like, well, a river.
Man Discovering Fire
I tried lighting a fire using dried branches from shrubs, dried coconut leaves, and shit. Hahahaha. It took a while and almost half of the Cricket lighter fluid before it was able to sustain its combustion.
huling_yosi took pictures of me doing that and said she'd call the pictures Man Discovering Fire.
Breakwater
There was also a breakwater about half a meter wide which extends around 300 meters from the shore to the sea. At night you couldn't see the edge of the breakwater and walking its length feels like walking into another dimension, maybe the afterlife. Everything was so silent, dark and silent, except for the stars and the moon which was a faintly glowing crescent. But in the morning, I was able to go to the edge of the breakwater and was not surprised that the water was still shallow, up to my chest.
The Boy Who Cried Wolf
There was this guy who spread the rumor among his relatives and friends that I kept on looking at him and that I have a crush on him. It's true. I have another take on that though: he wouldn't have noticed me looking at him if he wasn't looking at me too. :)
Long story short, I guess he did like me too. He said, "Hey. Why aren't you talking to me? Don't you want to have me as a friend?" He smiled whenever he was sure nobody was looking. The kind of smile that drives people crazy and hot. I'm sure he meant them as an invitation, or to stretch our imagination a bit, as a tool for seduction. He wasn't opposed to physical contact, in fact he encouraged it. He never blinked unless I blinked first. He said some things that were overtly sexual. He said them under his breath, when he was sure nobody was listening. Oh, dear lord, if only he was of legal age.
Back to Manila
hey_jay and
maidita went back to Manila ahead of us to catch the last run of Zsazsa. Jay writes passionately about how he missed most of the show
here. And we did experience the traffic, added to that, some minor car problem when we were approaching Tagaytay. We were so tired when we got back to Antipolo that we slept for more than 12 hours. We woke up ravenous.
Cheers to the perfect pre-birthday adventure!
