Hello! I miss all of my LJ friends. How have you all been? What have I missed during my "i'm-a-procrastinating-reclusive-fool" hiatus?

I checked my email this evening to find that the most excellent sharkycharming LJ-nudged me, which was super eerie because I was, in fact, just thinking this weekend that I really should pop into LJ and at least say "hello" to everyone. Weirdness. So, thank you thank you Heather for the nudge because I definitely couldn't ignore a double reminder that it has been 21 weeks since my last post. Yikes!

I really don't know why I haven't been posting. I have popped in now & then to read my friends page but basically I have just been invisible. In reality I have no excuse for the neglect, as I have had plenty to write about, and (for the most part) plenty of time to write. I got a new job. I no longer work with the little ankle-biters. I do really miss the kids (some of them) but I don't miss the pay or the poop. I'm now spending my days back in cubicle hell. Actually, it's not that bad, but it's not great either. It's just "meh," but the pay is better than the preschool gig so that's always a plus.

What else is new? Hmmm. Oh, I spent a day walking around Manhattan in November. I loved it! I can't believe that nearly my whole life I have lived relatively close to the city (I'm just about 3 hours north) yet I had only been there once prior to my recent visit and that was well over 10 years ago and I only saw Ellis Island & The Statue of Liberty that time. I didn't get to see everything I wanted on my recent day trip, but what did I expect in one day? It would take a lifetime to see every little last thing I would like to see in that city. Anyway, we drove down the Thruway, hopped on the train in Yonkers (bleck!) and arrived in Grand Central Station sometime shortly after. We didn't have a specific plan as to wear to go or what to see so we just started walking... and walking... and walking some more. Our metro card ticket went mostly unused as we only rode the subway twice. My boyfriend, sister and her boyfriend and I might as well have had a flashing neon sign floating over our heads flashing "TOURISTS!" as we stopped and stared in awe at the window displays on Madison and 5th Avenues, took the essential cheesy tourist photos in Times Square, and Rockefeller Center, tried to talk to the friendly squirrels in Central Park, stopped and stared at our NYC guide book of street maps on nearly every other corner (often realizing we were heading in the wrong direction and backtracking block after block), ate dinner at The Hard Rock. Yeah. Total tourists. It was all great though. I didn't mind my obvious tourist appearance, I was too distracted by everything my eyes were trying to take in. I can't wait to go back. Next time I would like to visit some more off the beaten path areas, though I would still be pleased with seeing all of the typical tourist traps too. Anyone have any favorite places to eat/shop/go/see when they are in NY?

Well, thank you again for the nudge Heather! I hope that I won't slip away into invisible mode again anytime soon.
