How to Save Yourself Thousands of Lives

May 02, 2010 01:07

I place the word “wrong” in quotations because we live in a universe of duality and relativity.  An example of duality is good and evil, black and white, yin and yang, etc.  One cannot exist without the other in terms of experience.  How can we know what feeling good feels like if we have never felt bad before?  How can our taste buds ( Read more... )

I do quite like Taoism, though I'm not nearly as well-versed in it as I'd like to be. I think if I ever subscribed to something organized, it'd be Taoism. Thank you for this post.

Thanks for letting me ramble.

One book I love, (and keep by my bedside,) is; "The Tao of Pooh" by Benjamin Hoff. It's a great introduction to the world of Taoism and a fun read as well.

"The truth is simple. Bullshit is complicated."

A true taoist would never say that.

Well I never said I'm a perfect Taoist. In fact, for some reason beyond me, I chose a spiritual path that it the polar opposite of my personality.

And I'm still learning. The Tao may be only 5,000 characters long, (in its original form,) but its ideas are complex and I believe I could spend the rest of my life trying to understand more fully.

I try to remember; "compassion, moderation and humility," but its a tough discipline for me.

I think calculus shows some truths can be known through complex means. There may be little reason 'truth' would discriminate between simple or complex, big or small, rich or poor.

Why do I think this? Probably because I failed to fully grasp the depth and elegance of what you said, or the context in which you said it. But, I was somewhat joking. [:

I think I remember you from convert_me. Thought I'd say hi. Then again, you probably don't remember me...

Then again, the cocky, disdainful, wannabe know-it-all aura I exude at times could be somewhat of a reminder...:X

Hey there. I have a terrible memory for some things, but it's nice to get acquainted again. If you don't mind I'd like to add you to my friends list.

I believe that Truth can come in complex forms, such as the field of medical science. (I used to be a medical journalist.) There were complexities that used to lose me about 5-10 minutes into the lecture, but what they described was the inner-workings of a pill that saves lives.

I kind of figured you were joking as well.

But when I've dealt with people, especially my late spiritual mentor and a former writing mentor and friend, used to lay a lot of simple truths on me.

Then I'd think about things like "collateralized debt obligations" and those other troublesome stock maneuvers back in late 2008 - and about how they were purposely designed to confuse the average investor.

And that's when that saying hits me. I have heard some truly profound things that impressed me partly for their simplicity.

Yeah, I thought that's what you were referring to.

Uh, don't add me. I might be deleting this account. I'm not sure yet.
