I went to my very first future planning career type deal today. Huge thing at the Omni and kind of scary. All these UVA kids were running around in expensive suits throwing their resumes at the state department. Then there was me. I don't even really have a resume yet. I tried to look nice but I don't own a suit yet. Since when did everyone my age start buying suits and briefcases? I think I missed the boat on that one.
The Peace Corps guy was awesome. There's another info session for it today at 3:30. I think I might actually do this. I started my application a few weeks ago and I am about half way done. He said the application review process usually takes around 6-9 months so I think I'm just going to apply.
I also talked to the State Department and a woman from Ogilvy. I liked the woman from the State Department. She gave me a huge envelope about the foreign service exam but I think I might wait a while to take that. The Ogilvy lady was not really helpful at all. they didn't have any information about career stuff and just made it seem like none of us had a chance in the advertising world. I really do not understand that approach to things where people make something prestigious look impossible and out of everyone's grasp. UVA did the same thing when I visited before I applied. Its not like UVA is easy but its not impossible.
I found some more internships to apply for with State Farm and the Martin Agency. Hopefully something can pan out.
