[Unnamed] the Smoker

Apr 06, 2005 02:09

Today I was delighted to be reminded of why my mother is such an anti-smoking activist. The girls and I decided to eat outside for dinner today, given the wonderful weather. [Friend 1] invited [Unnamed] to join us, who decided to light up a cigarette next to me. There was a breeze, and thus his smoke was blowing in my face. Of course I made a comment, which instigated a defiant "well I'm not moving" from [Unnamed]. Therefore, I relocated my blanket and food to a different location (mind you, he had nothing with him and was sitting on the grass).

This "friend" didn't show any remorse for having inconvenienced me at all, and instead went on to say "Well I'm 100 feet from the building, I can smoke wherever I want", which he restated after I pointed out that it would have been a personal favor to me and not an attack at him as a smoker. How dare he need to scoot one foot backward to respect me. How discourteous of -me-. Sassy prick.

I don't have the time or patience for people like this.

It absolutely astounds me how some smokers have made themselves out to be an oppressed race. I don't care if people smoke, it's their personal choice. It would be my personal choice to put up with it if I went to a club or bowling ally, not sit next to a person who claims to be a friend that wants to light up a foot away from me with no regard to me personally. People are allowed to pass gas too, it doesn't mean I want to rip one in my friend's face while they're eating.
