Dear Apple Computers,
I think we need to have a little talk...
Now a lot of people talk about how stable and secure your operating system is, and they're right for the most part. I mean, let's be serious and admit that it's a really good operating system because you ripped off a whole ton of stuff from the open source BSD project... but it's there for the taking so why not, right? Microsoft should probably do the same thing. If they overhauled windows to be unix-like variant, it would probably cut 80% of their security problems right off the bat. that's not 100% though, because regardless of how good the operating system you copy is, nothing is perfect. So on that note, I realize that OS X isn't really super secure. I mean, it's more secure than windows... but security bugs happen and fixes need to be made.
Herein lies the major problem. You guys really suck at applying fixes and patches. I mean, It's probably not a good thing that Microsoft has done it so much that they're good at it... but it's really a skill you need to have as a company with a major operating system. The last 3 major system updates that I have applied have completely hosed my operating system. I realize that I pose a particular problem because I'm a power user and your company tends to deal with the lowest common denominator of computer user, but I paid for a mac too, and so your patches should at the very least not BREAK things, right? I mean, if there's the chance that the new patch is going to cause problems with certain things, at least give me the warning.
Now, supposedly your company is turning record profits this year, so I've got an idea to make things even better. Let's hire some good developers that know how to create patches that won't murder an operating system with a few tweaks in it, and maybe even hire some less retarded more highly trained technical support staff (geniuses? what?) who won't look like big idiots when they try to fix my machine. ((I don't think that ram is apple compatible...))
So there we are. I feel better now that I've gotten that off of my chest, and I hope that you don't take it personally. I feel that you and I are friends Apple Computers, and how are we to be known the world over as friends unless we, like true friends, can be frank with each other in situations where it is necessary to make things work better. Oh... and I'm still a little sore about the fact that my iBook is a piece of trash and needs to get repaired every few months, so if you want to be friendly and send me a new MacBook (pro?), I wouldn't be too upset.
Love and Kisses (and kicks in the head),
Christopher
