So I should really be sleeping right now... but I'm not. I guess that's just the way things go sometimes. I did some shopping on Black Friday (what a nightmare that was) and got some really good deals. I got two 2.0 Gigabyte Secure Digital memory cards for $30 each (normally $100), one for my dad for Christmas and then one for either me or if I can think of somebody else that's really really into digital photography that I feel the need to give a present to (I would use it, but I don't really need it and I think somebody else might like it a lot more). I also got a new Linksys router because mine has been on the fritz lately. It's a pretty nice one that I haven't actually hooked up yet for whatever reason. My biggest purchase this weekend (by far) was a new monitor. It's normally like a $375-$400 monitor that I picked up at a steal for $170. I don't shop much (I'm still trying to justify dropping $170 on a whim), but when I do go, I do it well. I always spend all of my money on electronic gadgets and never shoes, designer bags or clothing. I'm glad I'm a man and don't have to worry about those silly things...

So onto the new monitor. It really is kind of a big deal. It's a 20" Samsung Widescreen WSXGA+ monitor (To the layman, that means it's the shit). Originally it was actually too big to use with my iBook because Apple is a really stupid company (I think I've made that rant before though) and puts limits on certain machines so that you buy the more expensive versions of them. Want to be able to run a really big monitor from your laptop? Well you need to pay the extra $800 for the Powerbook then! With a little geekery and even more hackery though, I have it set up and running just fine (in your face Apple).

Now I was excited to be able to run both my laptop screen and this big monitor at the same time because as a programmer/nerd, you need lots of space to have a bunch of different windows open at the same time. That mission was accomplished, but that's really nothing compared to the treat that I wasn't expecting. The quality of the picture on this monitor is freakin' amazing! It's so bright and sharp and the colors are amazingly vivid (first person to make a quip about me being colorblind gets a free ass kicking).

I've currently got it sitting next to my laptop's screen, and even at full on settings, the laptop screen looks dim, washed out and generally just pathetic. With the new monitor, OS X looks like a completely different operating system. So yeah, I recommend it highly. There's my life in general. I've got a really busy little stretch coming up, and then I'm probably gonna go fondle my sweaters. Take care all of y'all that actually took the time to read this. (Losers.)
