Probing the dark hollows of the eye sockets
With broken fingers
As the black-hooded rats hang from rafters
Of velvet and veneer

Trapped here without a memory
In the gallows of dreams
I watch and I wait and I tie
Love-knots in all these lacey bones

Singing to the deaf-dumb and the ghostly
With nosebleed sentiment
As my familiar looks on dressed for a death
Of rustworn, yellowed faith

Trapped here without a moon
In the gallows of dreams
I watch and I wait and I turn
Old pages red within open veins

Ruining the darkest night, they say, still
With hoofbeat inquisitive
As the yellow hair glimmers, falling sudden
Of my own decision lent

Trapped here without countenance
In the gallows of dreams
I watch and I wait and I hang
Every scent with strands left behind
