If the conversation wasn’t about StarCraft then surely you wouldn’t be able to get Kyuhyun’s attention at all. Sure, he had the highest GPA in his whole school and plenty of Universities were after him but only one, StarCraft, had the power to entrance him.
Kyuhyun was so hooked on his game that afternoon that he didn’t even notice when his cousin had stopped by his house for a visit, much less when his mother had happily volunteer him to take care of his cousin dog while he was away on a business trip. It wasn’t until the week after that he had realized the error of his ways.
“You volunteered Kyuhyun.” Mrs. Cho yelled at her son.
“When did I do such a thing?” Kyuhyun asked. Really when had he volunteered, he doesn’t ever remember seeing his cousin at all.
“When you were playing that stupid game of yours in the living room last week.” his mother duly noted.
“It is not a stupid game! Why me out of all people? Really mom when have I ever been good at taking care of animals?” Kyuhyun asked staring at the puppy laying on his bed.
“Well I don’t care if you’re good or not, you’re taking care of Choco for the week. Your cousin never asks us for anything, it’s the least we could do.” he’s mother said petting Choco who looked rather amused at the quarrel between the two.
“Why don’t you do it then?” Kyuhyun said in a challenging tone.
“Me and your father both work. Plus this would be a great time for you to learn responsibilities. Maybe you can finally take a break from that stupid game of yours as well.” Mrs. Cho said before walking out of his room.
What was his mother thinking? Really. Kyuhyun was never good with animals, “Doesn’t she remember how he killed the previous pets they had gotten him.” he thought to himself walking over to his bed to pet Choco. Seriously he never knew taking care of a turtle would be such a hassle, thank god Yesung had volunteer to take him after Kyuhyun almost stepped on him after one of his outbursts and let’s not talk about the time when he almost killed that poor cat his parents had gotten him for Christmas, again thankfully Heechul took him after that.
Kyuhyun woke up the next day to a note from his mother on his bedroom door.
“We already feed Choco. Hyukjae says he likes to walk in the park near our house. Do yourself a favor and take him for a walk, you could really use some sunlight sweetie I’ve never seen you so pale before. Be back at 5. Love you.”
“She’s seems to be enjoying this a little to much.” Kyuhyun thought as he poured himself some cereal and made his way back to his room to continue the game she so thoughtlessly interrupted for him yesterday.
Choco had decided that Kyuhyun's legs seemed to be a pretty comfortable spot for her to sleep, which didn’t help Kyuhyun at all because every time someone tried to kill him he would throw his legs in the air flailing and Choco would bark at him for disturbing her.
“You know this wouldn’t happen if you just slept somewhere else like every other normal dog.” Kyuhyun said as he took Choco and placed her on his bed, but the Pomeranian had other plans.
As soon as Kyuhyun sat down and pressed play on his game, Choco began barking at him. Kyuhyun tried to ignore her but “dang that dog is persistent.” he thought as he turned around on his chair to look at Choco who had somehow managed to jump from the bed as was barking at the door wagging her tail.
“Are you conspiring against me alongside my mother?”, Kyuhyun said to Choco as he took the leash from his dresser and placed it around her neck. “Fine let’s go walk you in the park.”
It was a beautiful day Kyuhyun had to admit, the sun was shinning brightly over the horizon, the birds were chirping rather loudly for his taste and the people in the street seemed to be in a good mood, “not a bad day at all.” he thought as he and Choco walked towards the park.
As soon as the reached the park Kyuhyun had to sit down to catch his breath, “Ok I think I’m really out of shape.” he thought as he fanned himself.
Choco had managed to find something interesting to bark at and flung herself after it dragging a breathless Kyuhyun along for the ride. “Ok either I’m in really bad shape or this dog has hulk strength.” he thought as he ran after Choco leash in hand, unaware of the jogger coming his way.
“Choco stop. Choco sit.” Kyuhyun yelled out trying to stop Choco from running farther but it was in vain, Choco had found her target as was running towards it at full speed.
It wasn’t until Kyuhyun collided headfirst into the jogger sending them both tumbling down that Choco stopped running.
“I am so sorry about that.” Kyuhyun said standing up and holding his hand out for the jogger.
“It’s ok.” the other man laughed, taking Kyuhyun’s hand to straighten himself. “It looks like our dogs don’t like each other.” he stated as both men turned around to find their dogs barking and trying to bite each other.
“Apparently so.” Kyuhyun said as he turned to look at the man in front of him to see if he was ok. “Are you hurt?” he asked looking him over.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry about it. Nothing like a good tackle to waken up the senses.” the man joked as he pried his dog away from Choco.“Cacao, behave.”
“It seems like my little Cacao here is not very fond of your dog.” the man said smiling and Kyuhyun thought his whole world was starting to spin. He had never seen someone with such a beautiful smile.
“I’m Sungmin. Lee Sungmin.” the jogger said extending his hand out for Kyuhyun snapping the latter out of his daze.
“Kyuhyun. Cho Kyuhyun.” He said as he took the outstretched arm and shook it. All the while staring at the man who he had noticed was not bad looking either.
“And this cutie’s name is?” Sungmin asked as he petted Choco with one hand and held Cacao away with the other.
“Oh this is Choco.” Kyuhyun said as he picked Choco up. “She’s my cousin dog.”
“Isn’t she cute! Maybe that’s why they don’t get along. See my Cacao here is a boy.” Sungmin said as he petted Cacao head, Kyuhyun couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Well I’ll see you around.” Sungmin said waving as he jogged away Cacao on hand. Kyuhyun waved back smiling stupidly.
“Well it looks like you might have just brought me some luck Choco.”Kyuhyun said patting the dog on his hands, Choco barking happily.
As he put Choco down and fixed her leashed he noted a phone on the pavement where Sungmin had fallen down.
“Hey you forgot something.” Kyuhyun yelled out after Sungmin but the jogger was long gone by then.
“Well it looks like we’ll have to come back tomorrow won't we Choco.”Kyuhyun said as he and Choco exited the park walking back home.
The next morning Kyuhyun woke up eagerly, he didn’t know why he was so nervous it was just Sungmin but he couldn’t help but feel giddy at the thought of seeing the other man.
“Lets see if lucky is on our side today Choco.” Kyuhyun said as they made their way to the park.
Kyuhyun sat down on one of the benches near where he and Sungmin had crashed yesterday. He pulled up Choco to sit on his lap and was petting him affectingly when he spotted Sungmin jogging his way.
“Didn’t expect to see you here again.” Sungmin said as he stopped to catch his breath.
“Why is that?” Kyuhyun asked confused.
“You don’t exactly look like the type to hang out at the park catching some sun.” Sungmin said laughing.
“Oh.” Was all that Kyuhyun brain could formulate and he remember exactly why he was there in the first place.
“Maybe I am. Maybe I’m not.” Kyuhyun said teasingly. “Actually I’m here to give you this.” He said as he pulled out the phone from his pocket and handed it to Sungmin.“You dropped it yesterday and I called out after you but you had already left.”
“Thank you. I thought I had lost it.” Sungmin said smiling back at Kyuhyun. “Listen, if you’re not busy, would you like to grab some coffee with me. As a way to repay you for retrieving my phone of course.”
“That sounds like a great plan actually” Kyuhyun said smiling from ear to ear.
“Great! Then maybe you could tell me what type you really are.“Sungmin said winking and jogging away leaving a baffled Kyuhyun behind.
“Hey, wait up.” Kyuhyun yelled as he starting jogging after Sungmin.
Coffee had been better than he expected. Sungmin turned out to be quite the character. He learned a lot about him that day, like how Sungmin was actually quite good at martial arts despite his feminine chick physique, that he loved anything pink and how he absolutely hated jogging.
“Then why do you do it?” Kyuhyun had asked him.
“My parents are on my case saying I’m too fat and that I needed to lose weight.” Sungmin had stated.
“Well I don’t see it you look perfect to me.” Kyuhyun blurred out.
Without even realizing it, well maybe he did but he wasn’t going to admit to it just yet, Kyuhyun had given up StarCraft and picked up jogging with Sungmin as a hobby. “A much healthier exercise if you ask me.” he thought.
Every day he would get up after his parents had left taking a quick shower, gulfing down some breakfast and finally heading towards the park for what he told his parents was “Choco daily walk” of course he had other reasons for it but they didn’t need to know that not yet anyways.
Kyuhyun would always meet Sungmin in the same spot where they had first met. They would jog around the park for a while. Eventually jogging over to the café near by, chatting until it was time for both of them to go.
Unfortunately for Kyuhyun the week had passed way to fast, and soon enough Hyukjae was back from his business trip to pick up Choco.
“Who’s a good girl?” Hyukjae said as he played with Choco. “Thanks again for watching her for me Kyu.”
“No problem hyung. We actually had fun.” Kyuhyun said as he petted Choco’s head.
Hyukjae looked curiously at Kyuhyun then back at Choco.
“Guess you two became friends huh.” he said as he put Choco leash on.
“You could say that hyung.” Kyuhyun said a small grin on his lips.
“Thanks again Kyuhyun I owe you.” Hyukjae said as he headed for the door.
“Hey hyung. If you don’t mind, I would be more than willing to take Choco out for a walk during the day.” Kyuhyun said resting his body against the door frame. He really did have to thank Choco for a lot after all.
“I’ll keep that in mind Kyu.” Hyukjae said still in shock and he got in his car and drove away.
“I wonder what Kyuhyun made you do.” Hyukjae said to Choco as he drove off.
After all it wasn’t every day that Kyuhyun offers to watch Choco so willingly, then again it wasn’t every day that Choco helped him land a boyfriend. Well future boyfriend as Kyuhyun would so gracefully put it.
