New userpic in honor of the carpenter bee that lives outside my window. Buzzlor spends most of his time buzzing about the porch and watching me when I read on the porch chair. His friends include Bumblor, who tends to fly into things, Voyeur, who sticks to the other side of the house and can often be seen peeking at you through the bathroom or kitchen windows, and Gigantor, the biggest bee that spends the most time rubbing his legs together.
Our newest habit at 1105 Macon Highway is to sit on the front porch with cigarettes or beer and watch the bees. They can't sting us, but they're very active and curious. The best part of bee watching is BEE FIGHT, which can be an exhilarating display of bee prowess.
The bees fly at each other at top speed and then bounce off. Sometimes a bee will try and force another bee down onto the ground and then fly just above it to keep it from being able to get up.
