... or, rather, afro... damn. today I capped off my research for my civil rights report. At first I thought I'd check out this one place on west king street, the Dr. Robert B. Hayling center, or something - a lot of my research focused on this man's immense contribution to the St. Augustine civil rights movement. anyways, imagine this: it's a three part sign -
the top says something like "African American Cultural Museum"
the bottom says "Robert B. Hayling Museum and Cultural Center"
and in the middle -
a sign for a fried chicken shack. (I'm not making this up!)
SO..... I went elsewhere. I took a picture of the whole sign, thinking I might use it for my presentation.... I will not.
Elsewhere, Lincolnville, I found exactly what I needed. After a quick interview and a run in with a St. Augy Record reporter/photographer, I think I have everything I need now.
Coming up, I'll be attending a lecture by my senior seminar topic author Ernest Gaines after class tomorrow. Eh, sounds cool, but, Saturday is what I'm looking forward to. South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu will be accepting an honorary doctorate from UNF that evening, but will be fielding questions from students in a special session earlier in the day, between 1:30 and 2:30, open to students taking classes somehow related to such work (like my Human Rights and Literature class). Apparently, a friend of Tutu's, Oupa Seane, not only teaches at UNF, but has sat in on Dr. Slaughter's class before. now I just hope that I can get that time off of work.
