counting summer semesters, this will be my twelfth semester of college, and fortunately my last:
Lit. and Human Rights: perfectly crossing my two majors (international relations/int. studies and English). my prof's name is Slaughter (I wonder who first chose "Slaughter" as their last name? damn.). started in UNF when it opened in the mid 70's and near retirement. for all of that, he can't shut up- we were supposed to begin the movie "rabbit proof fence," but he didn't stop. not that he should, he has some interesting stories. I've learned that the further you progress in college, the better the professors get. this guy is pretty much *the* fixture of the english dept (I finished all of my INR classes last winter), so it is nice going out with such a professor. and the books are some very good choices.
Seminar: Ernest Gaines. I have no idea who this guy is, but my professor for this course seems to think of him as some devine bringer of light. oprah really likes him, which makes a repellant in my mind, but I'll wait until I read the damn books. my prof is the former UNF president (I think), and only teaches one class a semester and chose this one. she even managed get this guy to come here some time in Nov. I'll judge how happy I am with this the more I read. I also think that I am the third, maybe forth guy in a class of 30 or so. one of the girls even asked me about how many guys were in my other English classes compared to girls, probably as this class served as an extreme example of the gender gap (not that I mind a bit). of course, upper level programs are filled with older, 35 or older students, and no exception here. but that's only a fraction of the class, and any additional incentive for me to show up is perfectly welcome.
outside of that...the after-effects of having wisdom teeth pulled are a bitch and I hate it. had to put the kilwins order in online, sucking more of my time, and now I'll have to train someone new over the weekend. barely spoken to any friends recently, too much work/school/seculsion is enducing cabin fever. i need to get out.
