My brother and I try to play tennis once or twice a week (in the morning 'cause he has work from 2-11pm) on days where it is not SCORCHING HOT. Yesterday morning was actually quite comfortable. And next week is going to be mid-high 70s!!!!!!!! Hooray for not 90+!!
Anyway, we play in this nice park about 10 minutes away in a park that a smaller school district uses. The courts are in pretty good shape and the area is surrounded by trees (shade and wind blockers!). Normally it's just us and/or some guys that are most likely on that school's tennis team.
Well, this particular morning, there was this girl (maybe a senior in high school?) that showed up, and a few minutes later, a young girl (5-6yrs old?) shows up with a tennis racket. She was taking lessons! SO ADORABLE. They went through basics like the ready stance, forehands, and backhands and did exercises with these softball-sized foam balls (that bounced like a tennis ball remarkably since we had to return a of them). This is my favorite part though...
5/6yr old girl: Are they playing for serious?
Trainer: Apparently so.
My brother and I always play fierce. But we were both quite on are game that day so it probably looked extra-fierce XD I mean, I was feeling a rush of adrenaline from how well I was returning, the speed that I was able to cover the court, and hitting with quite some power and strong angle placement. And we had a lot of long rallies full of FIERCENESS. I love it when this happens - we are not morning people at all so it was extra exciting lol.
The neighborhood is also quite lively - lots of walkers, runners, and bikers. Well, two young boys (9yrs and 6yrs probably?) came by on their bikes and stop for a drink at the drinking fountain. And then sat down on the bleachers to watch the tennis on-goings for quite some time. And then the youngest was like "Ummm.... can I try?" and we were like... "... Sure?". The racket standing was half of his height XD So we ended letting these boys attempt tennis for fifteen minutes as we helped by hitting ridiculously soft shots (which was painstakingly difficult) and we also became epic! Ball Fetchers. At least it was endearingly fun and they were really happy when they left. Even when they said "We're not really good at this", they said it with a smile on their face and were positive about it.
The youngest boy wanted to join us when they were about leave (we wanted to hit a few more before leaving), but his brother was like "I don't think that's a good idea". Truer words were never spoken - I would feel bad if one of us blasted him with a ball of FIERCENESS. :P
