Dojima offered a smile back, but he can't help but force it. His whole world had been turned upside-down in a matter of days. "Glad to see some people made it," Ryotaro holstered his police-issue revolver as he spoke, "-sorry that this is a little unorganized. I know the head of the Task Force is taking on a solo mission, so I was asked to come here to offer some assistance."
Though, to be honest? He didn't know his head from his ass in this situation. "Detective Ryotaro Dojima." He offered his hand as he pulled himself inside and gently shut the door behind him. "I'm sorry I don't have much in terms of help - is everyone here all right?"
The detective moved deeper into the church before grabbing a pack of cigarettes from the pocket of his slacks; half of them were missing and Dojima shook them with a slight sigh. This place would be the death of him, he was sure of it.
"I heard from an Agent Lang that the rest of the Task Force was meeting here to make sure people were all right." He yanked a cigarette out with his teeth and pulled out a lighter.
He paused then.
"Ah ... I hope you don't mind?" The detective gestured to the smoke. "Bad habit, I know."
Fabulous! Didn't want to step on any toes or anything :'DantiakumaFebruary 23 2011, 01:38:00 UTC
Allen shook his head lightly, stepping aside to let the officer inside. "I don't think there's any need to apologise for being disorganised. I get the feeling that, given the state of things, anyone who is really organised at this point is someone I'd like to speak to and get some answers from."
As Dojima's hand was offered, Allen took hold of it in his own to give a light shake in greeting "Pleased to meet you, Detective. I'm Allen Walker, an exorcist of the Black Order." For now, he thought to himself, but that was really an aside detail that would have taken a great deal of explanation to make sense. Certainly not something he wanted to subject this person to at this point in time. It did dawn on him briefly though that it was sort of funny when he thought about it--giving pleasant introductions and gestures of greetings inside a church when they had all arrived in an unknown city which turned to heat and dust in a matter of seconds... Strange.
"So far it seems like everyone who has arrived here is all right, relatively speaking--" though he turned briefly to gesture toward a corner of the church "--though a team mate of mine is recovering from injuries over there, he's the only person I've seen wounded so far and that was...unrelated to the current situation."
His eyes fell upon the movement the detective was making to light up, quiet and undoubtedly pensive for a second as if the gesture had sparked some memory in him before he shook his head to refocus his thoughts "Ah, no, it's fine. Go right ahead. I'm used to it." Too used to it, but again, too many unnecessary details to go into.
"I take it you're not one of the people who has supposedly been brought here before, Detective?"
oh please always feel free <3inabapoliceFebruary 23 2011, 02:45:34 UTC
After the initial hand shake and introduction, Dojima lit up his cigarette and sighed. The inhale felt good in his lungs and it calmed his pulse a beat. He opened his eyes, watching as the smoke wafted into the church and hung in the dank darkness.
"An exorcist?" To be honest, Dojima had no connection with any religion, so the culture shock was a little much. "Sorry I'm not familiar with your line of work." And he wasn't - even the shrine wasn't a place he frequented, despite having such a close connection with his backwater little town. "I guess that comes with the territory though," he said as an after thought as he placed the cigarette into his mouth and shoved one hand into his pocket.
Though a brow shot up as soon as Allen explained that one of his comrades was injured. "Before here? I don't have much on me, but maybe I can take a look?" He was terrible with medicine, but if someone was in trouble, he thought he should lend a hand.
Dojima rubbed the back of his head and sighed tiredly. "No, I've never even heard of this place before. But there were rumors back home - "
Silence. "- nevermind. Let's take a look at your friend."
Thank you kindly! <3antiakumaFebruary 24 2011, 01:58:31 UTC
The cigarette wasn't exactly the same as the kind as Allen was used to: there was something different in the scent and in the shape of it, but the movement seemed as routine to this man as it had been to Allen's Master. He idly watched the smoke drift and dissipate in the air. With his eyes still quietly considering the smoke, Allen gave an almost distant reply to the comment about his occupation.
"The name might be a bit ambiguous. Exorcists are soldiers of the Vatican where I've come from. We're front-line fighters," he glanced back at Dojima then "Though I don't know if that actually clarifies much of anything."
The concern Dojima displayed toward Allen mentioning Kanda was wounded in part surprised him, not because the offer to help was such an unlikely idea, but because Allen knew Kanda healed exceptionally quickly and sometimes forgot that others did not. He smiled warmly at the offer though and shook his head. "It's very kind of you to offer, but I think he'll be all right. He's fairly quick to recover and--" he paused, glancing over his shoulder as he thought of how best to phrase what was on his mind "--Kanda's not the most forthcoming of people and he's unlikely to take your kindness well."
The pause midway through Dojima's latter comment made Allen's brow furrow in slight confusion.
"Rumours? Were they things possibly related to this place?"
no sir thank you :DinabapoliceFebruary 24 2011, 04:11:09 UTC
Dojima went to say something and stopped; a sigh, a shake of his head, and he buried that train of thought. He had come to his own conclusions while here - many people on the network seemed to be, well. Unexplainable. If this man's friend could take care of himself, then Dojima wasn't going to poke and prod at a hornet's nest.
But still, something was nagging at him. Yes, those rumors from back home - something about a television set? His nephew had said that he and his friends had been rescuing people from another world. At first, Dojima could not even fathom that kind of lie. As time grew on however, the detective felt himself backtracking on that particular detail.
Maybe the television world was real.
Dojima exhaled on his smoke. If that were true -
"-it was a case I was working. We closed it out a few months before I got here." He took a seat in one of the pews and leaned back. "It was claimed that there was another world inside the television set. I couldn't believe that, not even after we booked the man responsible for the two murders."
He rubbed his neck. "I'm sorry. It's been a long day. I probably shouldn't even be discussing these matters with you."
Sorry for Allen's derp--them Victorian lot don't know about your TellyVision box :|antiakumaFebruary 25 2011, 21:51:17 UTC
Allen's eyes followed the detective as he moved to sit down, opting to remain standing himself for the time being as the older man spoke. It wasn't so farfected to him, but Allen's world and Dojima's world were very different places with very different kinds of battles raging within them.
"No, it's fine, really. I think we're all having a fair rough time of being here so if I can lend an ear it's the very least I can do right now. You said you caught the person responsible... Did the murders continue in your world? Also..."
He paused, a slightly sheepish expression falling on his face as he did register that he was likely about to ask about something which seemed colloquial to the detective. "What's...a television set?"
so late D: my apologiesinabapoliceFebruary 28 2011, 01:41:56 UTC
"After we arrested the man responsible, the murders stopped." Dojima placed his thumb and index finger to the bridge of his nose and squeezed at it. "It was a complicated case and we barely had any forensics to back up the claim. We're supposed to be going through trial, but as that it stands -"
He was stuck here. Who the hell knew what this was doing for publicity back on the home front.
"We have his confession and that is about it - no prints on the two bodies that we found." He stopped and eyed Allen. "I really can't talk about much else, I'm sorry."
He took a drag off his cigarette and lowered his hand from his face slowly. " - you've never heard of a television set?"
No worries at all! I try to backtag forever so never worry about "late" tags ;pantiakumaFebruary 28 2011, 12:32:53 UTC
Allen shook his head lightly "Ah, no, it's fine. There's no need to apologise. I didn't mean to pry though, especially not on a matter that is on-going where you're from. I do hope there's some kind of resolution for this case though, if you have caught the man responsible."
He paused then, realising that he may have come across as sceptical or condescending, but in reality he didn't know anything about this case of Dojima's, or the man they had arrested, or the murders themselves. Allen really wasn't in a position to judge whichever way he looked at it.
The look he was given though as Dojima moved his hand left Allen feeling a bit... Well, not exactly nervous, but put on the spot. It seemed his assumption before about asking about the nature of a television set was quite on the mark.
"I... er... N-no, sir. I can guess it's something common where you're from, but the name is unfamiliar to me, I'm afraid."
Dojima forced an awkward smile. He understood Allen's confusion - all of this, whatever it was? He couldn't make heads or tails of it and the more he tried to come up with a logical answer, the more he was thrown off his guard. He rested his elbow on the pew and gently lifted himself to his feet. "I guess your - " He hesitated there. What the hell was he about to say, anyway? " - home isn't suffering much from not having them. They really have made our society lazy." Guilty as charged. How many times had he come from work, only to park himself in front of that damn thing?
"The case isn't something you have to worry about." Dojima closed his eyes and shuffled out between the pews. "I'm guessing you and your friend know each other pretty well? That's good." Not that he would wish anyone back home this kind of torture, but it was a lonely world without some sort of comfort from home.
At least he had a pack of cigarettes.
"We'll wait here for the storm to pass. I don't want anyone traveling outside if they can avoid it."
Allen had no point of comparison between a world with TVs and one without them--he had no clue what they were meant to signal as objects. He held a bemused face for a while, then he slowly nods in agreement despite know really having much gauge on what he is agreeing with.
"He's not a friend," Allen replied rather easily as he glanced across the church once more "At least I don't think he'd consider us that. We're comrades though, so you could say we've gotten to know each other well over the last year or so. We've fought along side each other." And against each other. "But we're also with another team mate with us but he was unharmed, as far as we could see."
His eyes slid toward the door then, looking a bit cautious.
"This storm is like nothing I've ever seen before... We have no idea how long it'll take to pass or if it will escalate over time. I don't disagree that we need to stay safe, but I also don't think we can stay here indefinitely--we will need to come up with some kind of collective plan if this state continues."
"Not friends, huh? You seemed concerned." Dojima's face flashed with moderate suspicion, but it was dropped as quickly as it came. He pushed a palm into his hair, noting that he seriously needed a shower after all of this. It felt like he was here an eternity, but the sun hadn't even set yet.
"It's likely that there are good people trapped out there," the Detective mumbled under his breath and his eyes screwed shut. "-this isn't the kind of reality innocent people should have to go through." He opened his eyes, watching the last remnants of his cigarette waft into the air. "I'm sorry you have to endure all of this." And here, he turned a wavering smile to Allen. "I suppose we just have to make the best of it."
Though, to be honest? He didn't know his head from his ass in this situation. "Detective Ryotaro Dojima." He offered his hand as he pulled himself inside and gently shut the door behind him. "I'm sorry I don't have much in terms of help - is everyone here all right?"
