Who: Tseng (
gunsight), Reno (
riotinstereo), open to Rude
What: Tear-jerking heart-rending emotastic tearful Turk reunion. Or a reunion, anyway. With booze.
Where: Fountain.
When: After Tseng returns from the dead.
Nuadoria looked the same.
Exactly the same. It was as if Meteor had never fallen, the city had never been destroyed, and if he hadn't remembered his ... rather uncomfortable death quite so clearly, Tseng could have sworn that it had all been a dream.
But even if the escape from realm of the dead was a hazy, blurred thing in his mind now, like a dream fading with the onset of morning, he was quite, quite certain that it had all been real. Or as real as anything in this world was. Perhaps it was all some kind of complex simulator that they had been trapped in; perhaps their living bodies still lay somewhere in Gaia while someone toyed with their minds. It would explain... a lot of things.
Yet he was slowly becoming aware of some subtle difference in the place, even as he paced the streets before the fountain, exchanging messages with Reno on the communicator and awaiting his arrival. There was indeed a sense of progression, a feeling that some chapter had been closed and another opened. But there was also something else, and he wondered at it.
He felt... less stifled. It was as though death had released some noose around his neck, or perhaps the fall of Meteor had cleared the air of this place somehow. There was a clarity to his thoughts that hadn't been there since Veld's appearance in this city, a sense of wakefulness and calm that he hadn't noticed he had lost. For the first time in ages, it felt like he wasn't being buffeted constantly from one situation to the next, with no choice but to respond.
It also felt as though the implications of his actions hereto were sinking in for the first time. He'd embarrassed himself before Veld, he recalled. Shot Reno. Left his President in danger numerous times. Ignored good advice in an exercise in futility to try and rescue his President when it was already too late. Died. Shot Reno. Died. Shot...
He shook his head, trying to break away from that downward spiral. ... "Appalling," he muttered to himself.
