Who: Sephiroth (rectifythis) Angeal Hewley (divigate)
What: Watching the sun go down
Where: On the outskirts of the city
When: Just before Meteor hits

It was peaceful just before the end. Everything was still, as if all were watching in quiet awe of what could be their last moments. Screams of panic had died as the city emptied, and the streets were silent except for a sound like crackling fire from the looming destruction that eclipsed them. A weapon summoned by a man who sought revenge on those who had taken no part in his suffering. As if nothing else could be expected of him.

Yet even when Sephiroth did nothing to deny his actions, Angeal wanted to believe that there was part of him that he could still recognize; that wasn’t corrupted by the inhuman nature of his existence. But he knew then what he was capable of. It was a side of him Angeal had caught glimpses of but refused to face, laying just beneath the surface of that mask of sanity.

But what he had done was beyond reason, beyond forgiveness and understanding. And they would both suffer for their mistakes.

Angeal gripped onto the handle of his buster sword and shifted its weight in front of him. He could already see wear on the large piece of metal. No matter how much he’d tried to keep it from becoming damaged, age and use had cut scars onto its surface. Bowing his head, Angeal recited a promise he’d made long before he had given in to his own demons; to uphold his honor and bring an end to whatever tormented the world.

Even when it meant destroying all the things he cared about.

That was the life of a SOLDIER. He hadn’t been able to save Genesis from his own degradation or prevent Sephiroth from turning into what he became. Now lives would be lost again because he had failed to look beyond his own selfish need to hold onto a past that no longer existed. For all the time Angeal had spent trying to prevent a fate he knew was coming, he had been unable to stand in its way.

He soon found himself at the highest point of the city. If he did not find him there, he would at least bear witness to the magnitude of the devastation he had unleashed. And if it was all for nothing, he still owed him one last audience.
