Why had it happened? He didn't deserve to be trapped like this, like some lowly human criminal. He had to be out there. He was destined to find Mother, for he had before. There had to be a reason. This...
This had to be the way to Mother. So, he would just stand there for hours on end, staring with a glazed look, until he got restless and sunk back into screaming.
It had been hell. That was the only word he could use to accurately describe it.
And now, now he had the nerve to come and give him a visit? Chat as if they were casual acquaintances?
No, there had to be more of a reason than that. Kadaj knew his captor wanted something, though the specifics were nil. Not that it particularly mattered to the remnant. Whatever it was, the remnant refused to bow down to any fool like him. Ever.
He could see his shadow, looming against the wall. And then he stopped.
Restless? He scoffed at the understatement. Kadaj was trapped. Trapped like a caged animal, only the walls didn't stop. They just kept closing in on him, metal bars crushing him until they pierced bone and skin and he couldn't stand it he couldn't stay here--
He couldn't breath.
"What do you think?" the remnant hissed, gloved hands clutching onto the bars until the skin underneath was bony white. He hated the man. The sooner he was freed and killed him, the better. Water swirled around his feet and ankles. He fought off the instinctive urge to shuffle his feet. That would not get them away from the water, and not only that but it would be humiliating.
"How kind of you to remember my name. Maybe I should pretend to be grateful. What do you think?"

Aizen's smile didn't flinch, and he didn't budge an inch when Kadaj's dangerous voice trickled low and sinister from between the bars, threatening bodily harm without a word to suggest it. All he did was raise a bony hand, running long fingers through his hair, and his eyes didn't falter from Kadaj's for a moment, even when the other looked away from him.
A wild animal couldn't be approached recklessly, even with its leg in a trap.
"You needn't feign some ironic sense of gratitude; I hardly ask for your forgiveness. What I'd ask of you is something somewhat less than that."
He raised that hand again as though in offering, though it was completely empty. It wasn't something physical he had to hand over, after all; this was a symbolic matter, a matter of information, trust, allegiance. Not loyalty, perhaps, and he doubted such a thing could be earned from this sort of man, but then. Loyalty alone didn't get one far, these days. Trust a traitor to know traitors.
He spoke slowly, patiently, voice low and soft and calm and gentle and all those things that Aizen really wasn't, not beyond the surface. "I suspect this is something you'll find to be within your abilities, if you're so inclined. I don't doubt that you want to return to your home-world. It seems clear that whatever you're seeking isn't here. I have the same goal - to return home and complete what I began. I would like to release you. In exchange, I desire your assistance and your compliance."
A pause, a brief heartbeat to let the words sink in, and he continued.
"Of course, it isn't my intention to control your every move. Simply to be aware of my requests and follow them through. I would like to see us all leaving this world in one piece - but given that the natives are the ones keeping us here, it may come to bloodshed if we have to fight through.
"Naturally, I want capable fighters. You're more than qualified."

The nerve of him, with that smile. He wanted to wipe it right off his face. His stare darted away, a sign of disregard and obstinacy. It was small, even pathetic. But it was the only one he could give.
It had been a lucky shot last time. That's all. This man stood no chance. Once he was free, and...
Well. Perhaps that would work.
Kadaj played along to the charade, hardly fooled. Listening to his words, not allowing the poison to enter his mind. The words were gentle, just as his had been. And hers, the one who had taken him from the life he had almost had. The one he had wanted. It was a red light to him, but that didn't matter. He had learned by now. Was learning. Foolish as they were, he couldn't understimate them as he had before. Now, all he had to learn was to remain calm, for now, and become a better actor. The remnant didn't believe that this man, so well-versed in his actions and manners, would fall for it if he tried to act like he agreed with him. What he needed to get him to believe was that he wouldn't kill him at his first chance, and that he would agree to his little plan.
Once he was out...
His grip tightened over the bars, the digits numb by now. The water chilled him to the core, but he remained completely still. "I'm glad you wouldn't control me," he nearly purred, voice dripped in sandpaper disguised as velvet, as he bowed his head in false submission. "So, what you want is the same thing. How convenient for us"
Even as his voice attempted to be amiable, eyebrows furrowed, they darkened his eyes below, nearly revealing his intentions if they already didn't. Oh, this was so painful. He didn't want to say it, but once he did, he would pounce him and beat up his annoying face once out. "Fine. Now." A doll-like tilt of his head, voice revealing none of the fear of the rising water he felt. "Let me out." It was all he wanted now, really.
