And this was why he had been avoiding this area like the plague. He needed to focus, damn it, and get his act together. When he got to his feet, Shuuhei looked around him one again, noting the suited man and a woman... and a dog? Was that her? Did someone get to her first while he was trying to recover? Taking in a painful breath of air, he moved towards the duo while struggling to keep his focus at first and then--
He was strong. He could get through this, injuries or no. Balling his hands into a fist, he staggered backwards before catching himself. Maybe helping out was a bad idea, if he couldn't even hold his own. Maybe he should have stayed back, so he wouldn't be such a burden on anyone else. Maybe--
Maybe this wasn't the time to lose focus.
As Vincent called for Rinoa, Shuuhei slowly walked their way, stopping just short of the man before squatting down a bit. It helped him focus, seeing his target in front of him. Looking even worse than his usual self, he lowered his head thinking of a way to make her feel more at ease. Kidou? Not possible, given the circumstance. The dog. She'd kill someone if they couldn't salvage the dog from this place. "I'll take the dog," he replied, "You take the girl."
Figures he'd end up carrying the dog. Shuuhei never really had any luck when it came down to these circumstances. And for some reason, the dog reminded him of a certain captain that he hadn't seen since the captain and lieutenant meeting back home. Was that really a month ago?
No, he could take care of himself. And hell if he was going to let Vincent help him, because Shuuhei still had his pride to take care of. No matter how many times it was trampled on by everyone for the past month. He wasn't going to be useless, and he sure as hell wasn't going to let this unbearable pressure get to him. He still had a job to do that he was hell bent on finishing.
s'fine, s'fine! :o I see no problems~ 'cept for my failage.liberanteAugust 7 2008, 06:51:19 UTC
Her name, however faint it sounded in her own ears, echoed and drowned out the melding words of the other residing inside. Warmth fought against the cold that had surrounded her before and her eyes fluttered open as her head was lifted. Crimson. She blinked against her own heavy lids, struggling to push against the grasp she was in when at first she couldn't recognize the stranger. Quickly after it registered to a familiar comfort and Rinoa allowed herself to sag weakly against Vincent, mumbling beneath her breath of promises and lies.
Squall was supposed to be there, he made a promise too. She winced against the memory and one hand freed from the dog to tightly grip the shoulder of her support. "You promised, you promised," she murmured, though she trailed off to heavy breaths. It was too hard to speak, too hard to think or to move or to breathe. The pressure she could feel was unbearable, but she couldn't find the source, she couldn't push it away.
There, another recognizable voice. More that could be in danger if she let go, if she failed. "Angelo? Don't hurt her. Don't take her away. She's mine."
Mine.
The thought wasn't her own, and it wasn't referring to her dog. Rinoa released her possessive grip on Angelo, nursing the same hand against her chest as if she'd been burned. "Need to stay away from me," she whimpered, almost an immediate contradiction to her earlier worries. "I'll hurt them, but it isn't me," she argued with herself, and repeated, "it isn't me."
Ultimecia had gone silent at this point and Rinoa's eyes closed again, focusing on keeping steady breaths. Was she gone? Maybe she finally gave up. No, this monster from the future didn't just give up. She would come back, pushing for control and power. All Rinoa could wonder now was what had triggered her in the first place, made her so angry and discontent, and if there was anything she could do to stop the sorceress from hurting anyone else.
"Don't.. leave me alone, please," she murmured to both men, straining against the pounding in her head and the ache in her chest. "She'll come, and I don't want to be alone, but..." she could end up hurting them. It was hard to decide between the choices. "I'm scared..." Squall... Maybe it would have been better to remain locked away.
