Who: Reno, Rude, Professor Hojo, Valeria
What: Laying the Groundwork
Where: Fountain --> Undisclosed Location
When: Now
Reno liked to think of himself as open-minded. He was able to do what others couldn't; which was one of the reasons he was so damn good at his job. Whereas most got tangled up every moral decision they came across, he didn't over think it. When he wasn't just following orders, he was prefect capable of taking a step back and figuring out how he could benefit from what he had access to. It was something he was proud of, and it had gotten him far in his career during a time when Shin-Ra relied more heavily on the tactical skills of the Turks. It wasn't that he enjoyed getting his hands dirty, or that he liked making work for himself, he simply understood when actions needed to be taken. This move was only a preemptive strike against the inevitable.
As they made their way to their first rendezvous, he shot a glance to his partner. Reno interpreted his silence as thinly masked anxiety. Rude had gone along with their plan, but Reno knew that his opinion might change depending on how the meeting went. Rude was aware of the situation with the remnants, and the fact that Reno had spent such a long time in recovery didn't inspire his confidence. Reno hadn't told him that his goals extended beyond using Hojo to find a way out of there, but his partner had probably made the connection.
Although some of his motives might have been loosely tied around payback, the scientist was useful in more ways than one. When Reno had first heard that Hojo was alive, he'd suspected that he had been responsible for everything. Now that it seemed like he was trapped there like everyone else, he wanted to see what he did know. If this was all a part of some experiment of his, Reno would find out one way or another.
Besides, Hojo was defenseless in this place, and Reno was confident that they'd get the better deal.
And then there was Valeria. What great timing she'd had. He would have liked to meet up with her after everything was settled, but that didn't seem like a great idea with some of the people who had responded to her transmission. At least for now, he wanted to avoid her getting information from anyone other than the two of them.
Since hearing her on the communicator, Reno had been straining his memory about her to gauge how she might react to their arrangement with Hojo. If she objected and went as far as letting anyone know, it would spread pretty quickly. As much as Tifa insisted that her friends had nothing against him, he was sure that would change if they caught wind of this. But Valeria was a Turk after all, and he trusted that she would go along with his plan even if she didn't fully understand it.
He spotted her easily enough when they reached the fountain. After giving Rude an acknowledging nod he casually approached her and extended an easy smile. "Hey, Val!" He didn't really have to fake being happy to see her. Having another teammate in this place could do a lot of good. But as much as there was to catch her up on, he'd have to save the reminiscing for later. "It's time to go."
