Piper searched frantically throughout the kitchen for flour. It was an essential ingredient for making brownies after all. It was impossible to make them from scratch without it.

She wanted everything to be perfect tonight. It was Cole's birthday and he deserved something nice, even if it was just dinner. He had told her that he didn't want anything special for his birthday, that there was nothing to celebrate. Piper, of course, did not accept that. She didn't tell him that, of course. Why ruin the surprise?

It would be ruined if she didn't find the flour, though. The whole thing wouldn't be complete without the brownies. She was about to give up in defeat when she finally spotted the flour behind a box of cereal.

"There you are," Piper said to herself as she grabbed the flour. She placed it on the counter along with the rest of the ingredients. She was lost in the process of turning the ingredients into batter, unaware of her surroundings, unaware of anyone in the room.

"What are you doing?" Cole asked, walking up behind her.

Piper gasped and whirled around to face him. "You scared me!"

"Sorry," he said, chuckling. He glanced at the ingredients scattered on the counter. "You're baking."

"No...I'm just..." She searched her brain for an excuse. "Inventory! Just, uh, making sure I have enough stuff for..."

"I told you I didn't want anything for my birthday, Piper."

She sighed, knowing she was caught. "I know, but you can't tell a chef she can't do anything for someone's birthday, especially when it's someone she cares about very much. Besides, if you don't want me to make brownies for you, my feelings will be hurt."

"Well, can't have that now, can we?" he said, grinning at her. He took some flour and threw it at her. Instinctively, she threw her hands out to freeze it, accidentally freezing Cole as well. She quickly unfroze him while the flour remained frozen in the air.

"No fair using your powers when I have none to use," he joked. Piper frowned, immediately feeling guilt. "I wasn't thinking. I'm sorry."

"I was only trying to be funny. I see I need to work on my sense of humor..."

"No, that's not it." She looked down. This was another reason she wanted to do something for his birthday. He was human now and she felt responsible for it. It had been a week since his demon half had been vanquished. A week since she made one quick decision to protect herself and her sisters. It happened so fast. She didn't even have time to think as she tossed a vial of potion at him, a potion that destroyed his demon half in a matter of moments. He had been stuck in his demon form after killing a demon sent to destroy the Charmed Ones. He had been so angry, so angry that he had forgotten for a moment who his friends were from his enemies. Piper did what she thought she had to. She was a witch first in that moment.

"Piper, you had to," Cole assured. "I would have hurt you. You think I would have been able to live with that?"

"I didn't even know what that potion would do to you," she whispered. "It could have killed you completely.”

"But it didn't." He took her hand. "It's better this way. No more demon bounty hunters. No more hiding. I was tired of running, Piper. I don't have to do that anymore. Maybe that was the best gift you could have given me."

Piper smiled, partly relieved that he didn't hate her. "So maybe there is something to celebrate."

Cole glanced at the ingredients again. "I can't really say no to your brownies either. It's impossible."

She grinned. "You like them."

"Course I do," Cole replied as the flour unfroze, finally reaching it's intended destination. In this case, Piper's face. "My aim's still good."

Piper groaned. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"

"A little," he said, moving closer to her. He stuck his finger into the batter and brought it to her nose.

"Hey," Piper protested, though she was laughing. "I don't know where that's been."

Cole smirked and brought his face even closer to hers.

"Should clean that off, huh?" He said, proceeding to lick the batter off her nose. "Better?"

"Uh huh," Piper said.

She sighed happily as he brought his lips to hers, tasting of chocolate. She held onto the edge of the counter, trying to steady herself as he deepened the kiss and it became more passionate. Eventually, he pressed her against the refrigerator.

"I need to finish..." Piper closed her eyes as he nuzzled against her neck, distracting her. The brownies were nearly forgotten. Almost. "You can help me finish?"

"Mmm hmm," he replied, leaning in to kiss her again.

"No, I mean, finish making those," Piper said, indicating the bowl of batter sitting on the counter.

Cole pouted at her. "I don't bake, Piper."

"All you have to do is whatever I tell you," Piper said, smirking.

"You're very bossy, you know. But I can be persuaded." Cole leaned in to kiss her again, but Piper moved away. "Nope, you're not getting out of this. Come on, help me."

Cole sighed seemingly in defeat. "Fine. But then I get to have my way with you, right?"

Piper gave him her most innocent smile. "Maaaaybe."

"Piper?"

She didn't respond, instead returning to the batter. Ignoring him really wasn't working, especially when he wrapped his arms around her from behind.

"You're not making this easy," Piper said, trying to finish mixing the batter.

"I know," Cole said, kissing her neck.

"Stop that." Piper was finding it hard to resist him now. He was distracting her once more, so much that she wasn't paying attention. The batter filled bowl paid the price as it crashed to the floor.

Piper stared at it and frowned. Cole smirked this time. "Whatever should we do now?"

She was still frowning. "Clean this up?"

"I think it can wait," he said, pulling her into another kiss. Piper knew this was a lost cause.

"Happy birthday," she murmured, hugging him.

"It is now," Cole agreed, glancing at the batter all over the floor. "Sorry I ruined your brownies. I'll clean that up..."

"Later," Piper interrupted. "I think you have better things to do."

With that said, she took off toward the stairs, Cole chasing after her.
