[ precisely an hour and a half after the doors open, mukuro shows up out of the blue, tie knotted firmly at his throat, the lines of his suit (it must be an illusion, in all its incongruity) sleek and sharp. there's so little occasion to dress up in nuadoria that he makes a show of it, polished shoes tapping with each step as he helps himself to a drink.
looking over the rim of the glass, he lets his eyes sweep the area casually, a faint smile playing on his mouth. dai is certainly enjoying himself, isn't he? ]
[ shouichi stumbles in several minutes after and looking nowhere near as neat & collected. (wearing a shirt that failed to be tucked in and a cardigan that was at least one size too large.) he nearly trips over his own two feet while attempting to straighten his tie.
obviously being here was a terrible idea, but he'd never really been known for making wise choices.
and as he suspiciously stares down a seemingly innocent pitcher of water, mukuro catches his eye. granted, his appearance and presence both had always been rather commanding, but this was bordering on the ridiculous. narrowing his eyes, he pours from the pitcher, seeming to no longer care about any potential poison. ]
[ he's already spotted shouichi, the unmistakeable flail of gangly limbs and mop of red sticking out like a sore thumb. sipping at his drink, mukuro gives him another once over, eyes lingering on his tie, before he answers: ]
Under the circumstances, it seems appropriate. [ don't worry, shouichi, if there was poison in there, mukuro will be the first to drop. who knows, he might even have time to vomit it out before succumbing to it himself.
mukuro lets his smile grow, the sharp curve of it not in the least reassuring ]
You could say the Grand Magister and I are on civil terms, I suppose. [ in the way that two men of ilk are oft to be. mukuro stops judging shouichi's attire in his mind, following the movement of his hand instead, and letting his gaze linger on the various servants on premise. he laughs. ]
Perhaps I ought to acquire property of my own, and host an equally lavish event. [ maybe by then shouichi will have learned how to dress himself, too. ] Don't you think that'd be interesting?
Interesting. [ he scoffed before taking a drink. he gave his tie one more agitated yank before giving up and shoving his hand into his pants pocket. ] That would be one way to describe it.
If anyone would be interested in Nuadoria real estate I suppose it would be you. [ mukuro could consider it a permanent vacation home! how festive. ] The point of these events is just to show off, isn't it?
[ excellent, the vacation home where you can check out but you can't ever leave. ]
A former captain of the Millefiore should be capable of distinguishing the purpose of this event. [ a display of power, of wealth were the prominent purposes of events such as these- it's nothing so light-hearted as a celebration. ]
Haa. [ ah, yes. the glamorous life of a socially incapacitated engineer who successfully tantrum'd himself out of having to attend most of his assigned soirées.
unless, of course, the boss was directly involved. ] Not as likely as you might think.
[ at least, at this point with mukuro, shouichi didn't have to pretend he possessed any sort of charm. ]
[ no doubt by pleading horrible, debilitating stomach aches, if mukuro's suspicions are correct.
byakuran probably brought him along out of a sick sense of sadistic amusement, because it's so plainly obvious that shouichi's just about as cut out for this kind of thing as sawada tsunayoshi is. which is to say, not at all. ]
[ and even if he doesn't, it's not like he'll get a straighter answer out of mukuro than this. he rarely attends anything the mafia deigns to host, preferring to send chrome in his stead. ]

A little too flashy, don't you think?
[ mukuro would know what he was referring to. ]

Has anyone told you your tie is crooked?
Reply
One of the things you seem to have in common. [ shouichi gestures to dai's less than humble abode. ]
Not that I'm at all surprised. [ it's still crooked, by the way. just on the opposite side from before. ]

I'm familiar with that tactic.
[ shouichi pushed up his glasses before taking another drink, using the silence as an opportunity to glance about the room. ]

I don't suppose you'd care to guess what sort of misfortune will occur tonight.
[ because he knew it was coming. call it a sixth sense. ]

[ you know, in whatever terrifying awful terrible elaborate scheme that could spring upon them any minute now. ]
It's unusual for you to walk so willing into misfortune.

Knowing my luck, it would have followed me regardless.

Has anyone ever told you no good will come of being pessimistic?
Reply
Being optimistic hasn't done much for me, either.
It makes more sense to be practical.
[ which was laughable. nothing about either of them or anything they've ever done would be considered practical. ]
