the honeymoon

St. Thomas was beautiful. We stayed at Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort,

which was absolutely beautiful and apparently the best resort to stay on the island.

I promise to post real pictures (ones I actually took) once I have them all uploaded and captioned on SnapFish.

Monday
Brent had this brilliant idea to rent a car, even though we had been told it was unnecessary. Personally, I think he just wanted to say he’s driven on the other side of the road. Once we got to the resort at Frenchman’s Reef, we took a 5-minute shuttle to the Morning Star side for dinner (Frenchman’s is on a cliff overlooking the ocean and Morning Star is below the cliff on the beach). We ate at Coco Joes

which is right on Morning Star beach. It was so beautiful and relaxing drinking rum and listening to the ocean. After that we drunkenly walked on the sand, then laid on some chaises and watched the stars.

Tuesday
We started every morning out eating this wonderful buffet at Frenchman’s Windows on the Harbor

I fell in love with the smoothie bar and Belgian waffle station. It was wonderful because you could watch the cruise ships come in for the day over breakfast.

Our first big adventure was Atlantis submarine tours. We took a ferry out to Turtle Cove, where we saw the submarine waiting for us. The hour submarine ride was worth the obscene price tag. We got to 90-feet below and saw plenty of reef, fish, sharks and turtles. What was interesting though was after you hit 20 feet, colors start disappearing. The first color with go was red, so everyone’s lips and tongues were blue.

After adventure #1, we walked around Havensight Mall (http://www.havensightmall.com/). I have never seen so many liquor stores and jewelry stores so closely grouped together in my life. They were just one right after another. I bought some duty-free Vera Wang Sheer Veil perfume for a fraction of the US price. Brent and I also brought home plenty of rum and I bought a huge thing of watermelon vodka for only $8. And Brent splurged on a giant bottle of Johnny Walker that was only $125.

Once we woke up from our nap (I don’t think I’ve ever taken so many naps before), we went to a local dive bar, Shipwrecked, for crab cakes and burgers. We left there about 9:30 and discovered something interesting - there were minimal cabs out. (First let me explain, Brent only drove the rental during the day. St. Thomas is a giant mountain with narrow, curvy roads - we didn’t want to die on our honeymoon). So we sat in the parking lot for about 15 minutes and finally a cabbie came to our rescue. The driver asked what we were doing out so late and explained that nightlife usually died down a little before 9 p.m. because it got dark so early. (It was pitch black by 7:30 each night).

Wednesday
After a complimentary breakfast for reward members (thank you, Brent) we went to Morning Star Beach

to relax. It was beautiful and we had our pick of chaises with umbrellas. I got in the water several times and it was wonderful. Each time I went in, I wished Brent was with me (damn stitches). We had lunch at Coco Joes again and then went back to our chaises to relax some more.

Once we got back to the room, we decided to take a 30-minute snooze. Two and a half hours later we woke up.

After we got ready we went to Paradise Point. This is a restaurant you have to take an air tram to. The view was breath-taking,

the live music was great and their signature drink, Buschwakers, was fabulous. We had a great table where we could watch the cruise ships eave and the sunset work its magic.

Thursday
After some more yummy Belgian waffles, we ventured to the downtown market area where vendors proudly displayed their Kate Spade, Gucci and Prada knock offs. Brent and I then did the historic 99 Steps

which everyone and their dog seemed to point out was 103 steps. Whatever, 99 still sounds better. After we walked down the steps, we tried to find this Mexican restaurant that one of Brent’s coworkers recommended, Charlotte Tamale, which is somewhere in the downtown area (which is also referred to as Charlotte Amelie). Whenever we would ask a local where Charlotte Tamale was, they would say, “You are in it - Charlotte Amelie). Eventually we gave up and found some Mexican restaurant called Taco Fiesta. I didn’t feel with “fiesta” but oh well, at least it had air conditioning and water.

Once we got back, we chilled the Frenchman’s pool

for awhile and watched the iguanas. (Yes, there are iguanas and lizards everywhere but they are adorable).

That night we ate at an authentic Italian restaurant, Vigilios. The food was to die for and the service was amazing. The owner insisted after dinner we try some of his famous cappuccino, which was the perfect night cap. Coffee and booze mix very well.

Friday
We took the ferry to St. John and did a land tour. This was my favorite part of the trip. The tour was amazing. St. John is a national park so everything was in such beautiful condition. We went to Truck Bay

which is one of the best places to go snorkeling in the world. We also saw Cinnamon Bay

and Canal Bay.

We went to some sugar mill and rum mill ruins, which were amazing. And he also showed us this plant called Touch Me Not and when you touch it, it basically disappears and then reappear several minutes later. It was quite fascinating.

That night back in St. Thomas, we went to Tavern on the Water Front. The restaurant was very nice and Frommers said it’s one of St. Thomas’ celebrity hot spots. Brent and I decided to be brave and we each ordered seafood. We discovered we aren't major seafood people (crab cakes excluded), but it was definitely worth the risk.

Saturday
We went back to the pool for the day. We ate at Sunset Grill

Somewhere over lunch I got the brilliant idea to start stuffing French fries into my bag - than once we got back to the pool, I went to the cliff and started feeding the iguanas. Brent said I was starting iguana anarchy.

That night Brent and I went to Agave Terrace; a beautiful restaurant by Red Hook that overlooked St. John. We splurged on dinner but it was such a feast, it was worth it. We were stuffed.

When we got back to the hotel, we went back to the pool to enjoy the night-time view one more time.

attention whore, travel
