"Few rules before we get this Italian Inquisition under way..." Anna grumbled, smoothing out her blue silk halter top over her jeans. "You will be nice. You do not gang up on them and barrage them with questions. Absolutely no mention of my - past - and no threatening."

"What are you starin' at me for, Anna?" Ryan arched a brow and looked down at his older sister, unamused.

Eva giggled from her spot on the leather couch by the window, perching next to their mother. "Pretty sure you threatenin' to kill Ford is why she's lookin' at ya, genius."

Ryan shot Eva a look and Anna just sighed, shoving the tall, lanky man into a nearby chair. Now... she waited.

Dean pulled up to the apartment building and looked up at the building, before leaning back against his car. He really didn't want to do this. He really, really didn't want to do this. He really, really hated Sam right now. What the hell was he supposed to even say to these people? He paused for a moment, before sitting back on the hood of his car and placing the phone to his ear. He didn't want to go up there -- he had to be buzzed in anyway -- but he figured if there was some kind of last minute way he could get out of it, he was going to take it.

Blinking as her cellphone went off, she flipped it open and answered it in a way she hadn't in months. "Morasca."

"Do I have to?" Dean was aware he sounded something close to five, but he didn't care.

Ignoring the looks she got from her family - those pitiful, sad, understanding looks - she sighed. "Si."

"Why?" Oh, that was a whine, too. "I mean, it's not like I'm exactly the poster boy for great boyfriend material here."

Moving into the bathroom down the hall, she closed the door and leaned against the door. "Because it's tradition. And it's important to mama."

"It's tradition to bring your boyfriend to meet the family?" Dean sighed. "Look, Anna, it's not that I don't want to meet your folks, but this just seems like a whole big to-do for someone who's not that impressive." And the more important she made this, the more likely Dean would be to fuck it up. Just saying.

"Don't say that about yourself, Dean. You're very impressive. And besides, I've been living with you and Sam for the last half of the year and they want to meet the person I've been hanging out with." Looking down, she drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly. "It would mean a lot if you would do this for me. But if you aren't comfortable with it, I understand and I'll -- figure something out."

"No, no," Dean sighed, before running a hand over his face. "I'm coming."

"I'll buzz you in. I already warned them if they try anything I'll kick their asses." She flipped her phone shut and emerged from the bathroom to buzz Dean in, waiting by the door to invite him in herself.

Dean was upstairs relatively shortly, knocking on the door when he got there and waiting for someone to open the door.

Anna opened the door slowly, biting her lip and smiling shyly as she saw Dean and put a hand in the pocket of her low-waist jeans. "Hey."

"Hey," he said with a nod, looking slightly anxious.

"I'm glad you made it okay. I was worried." She said under her breath so only he could hear her, reaching out to take his hand and pull him inside. This was like ripping off a band-aid. It was better to do it fast.

Dean followed her lead, anxious look still on his face, and glancing around at the apartment as he went.

She brought him to the loveseat and sat them both down, both hands holding his left - she knew he was nervous, maybe even a little scared - and so she was going to remind him he wasn't alone as much as she could. "Dean, you know Eva already. That's my brother Ryan, and that's my mama Adriana." She said softly, nodding as she went. "This is Dean."

Ryan gave Dean the onceover, suspicion clear in his features while Eva just sat indifferent to his appearance, and Adriana smiled warmly. "It is wonderful to meet you. Welcome to New York."

"Thanks," Dean said with a nod. "It's a nice place to be."

"So how did you two meet?" Adriana asked with a glance to Anna.

Dean hesitated for a moment, before looking over at Anna as well. What the hell was he supposed to say here?

"I was working a homicide last December and we... met at the scene. He was a suspect at first, but turned out to be a very useful confidential informant and he helped me save a woman's life." Anna answered easily, without hesitation. Cops were great at omitting the truth and she hadn't been off the force that long.

Ryan, however, scowled in disapproval. "So, Dean what exactly do you do? You're on the road a lot, so you must have some sort of steady income that isn't coming from my sister's pension."

Tensing, Anna's grip on Dean's hand tightened slightly as she cast a fierce glare at her brother - which was generally similar to the one Dean got before she smacked him upside the head.

How do you tell your girlfriend's brother that you hustle pool and run credit card scams for a living? "Odd jobs here and there. I never was really a career guy -- just do what I can where I can."

At this he seemed to dislike Dean even more. Anna called it Stephen's poison running through his veins. "So you have no plans for your future."

"Oh, I have plans," Dean said with a nod. "They're just -- not exactly your usual. I'm pretty good with cars, so I figure that if I ever get the chance to settle down I'll probably start up a garage or something. Have my braniac baby brother do the books."

At this, Anna blinked and looked at Dean, smiling in surprise at his answer. She was about to open her mouth when Ryan dropped the 'forbidden question'.

"What are your intentions for dating my sister?"

Dean gaped slightly at that for a moment, before stammering a bit, and then scratching his head lightly. "Well, we haven't exactly figured that out yet -- "

Groaning, Anna buried her face in Dean's shoulder while she turned five shades of red. "Oh my God."

Eva started giggling in her seat while Ryan seemed determined to get answers out of Dean. "You intend to settle down and start a family some day?"

"Uhh -- sure. Should life permit." Should a demon not kill me before I turn thirty. "I mean -- not exactly good for the kind of life I have now, but maybe."

"You care about Anna?"

"Ryan..." Anna groaned, face still buried in the boyfriend's shoulder.

"Course I do," he said with a nod. "Trust me, I wouldn't be here if I didn't."

She lifted her head to glance at Dean, still blushing as she loosened her grip on Dean's hand.

"You look me in the eyes, Dean, and tell me that you will protect her from harm and you will not hurt her." Ryan folded his arms across his chest, staring Dean down.

Dean straightened slightly, because that would be the one thing he could do. "I will."

"Anyone else think that I can protect myself?" Anna whined, raising a hand.

Eva giggled more and her mother just shook her head, smiling. "Ryan, enough interrogation for this beautiful young man Anna has brought home. Now, you children go into the other room, I would like to get to know Dean better. Shoo. Shoo!"

Ryan and Eva slumped off to the kitchen and Anna slowly let go of Dean's hand, kissing his forehead before leaving.

Dean looked back at Adriana with worried eyes for a minute. He wasn't sure if leaving him alone with her mother was the best idea, but he was going to suck it up and deal with it. He'd scared down scarier. Right?

Adriana moved over and sat down next to Dean, her smile still warm and eyes kind. "Please don't be afraid. I am not here to scare you or threaten you. I just want to welcome you to our home and our family. And to thank you for taking such good care of my baby girl."

"Oh." He gave her a small smile, before looking a little sheepish. "Sorry, I just -- I don't exactly do the meet the parents thing often." He paused for a minute, before shaking his head again. "And you're welcome."

"I can see that. You strike me as someone like Anna who doesn't get into a lot of relationships." Adriana placed a hand against Dean's cheek. "You are an amazing man, Dean Winchester. You took my daughter from her life of murder and death and gave her freedom. I have not seen her this happy in a very long time. Thank you for that."

Dean blinked at her again. "Ma'am, you really don't know me all that well. I wouldn't be so quick to say I'm amazing." And he really didn't take her all that far from the murder and death.

"You put the light back into her eyes. That takes an amazing man. You should not be so harsh on yourself. Now, I think we have tortured you enough, si?" Standing up, Adriana called for Anna and nearly shoved her daughter toward Dean. "You two go - be merry and celebrate your time together. We will have a big family dinner later."

Anna blew her mother a kiss and chuckled, tugging Dean to his feet and grabbing her coat. "Buona sera, mama."

Dean took Anna's hand, following wherever Anna was dragging him, and didn't speak until they were outside the door. Then he turned back to look at her, clearly confused. "What just happened?"

"I don't know. But whatever happened? I'm sorry?" She said slowly, worried that he'd been uncomfortable with whatever her mother had said to him. "I'm sorry about Ryan, he's-- protective and has his father's poison running through his veins." Anna ducked her head, fidgeting as she pulled on her black peacoat and buttoned it shut.

"Well, no, brothers should be protective. That's kind of their thing. And your mom -- your mom didn't say anything bad."

"She didn't? Oh. O-okay then."

"I think she likes me, actually," Dean said with a frown, glancing back over his shoulder.

Looking up she noticed the frown and canted her head. "Normally, people would be happy about that side of things."

"It's not that," Dean shrugged. "Just something she said."

"Can I ask what she said?"

"She thanked me for getting you away from your job," he replied. He wasn't going to bring up the amazing part. That part he was still sorting out.

"Oh." Anna reached up to rub the back of her neck. "Mama... she wasn't always the most pleased when it came to my job. She was hoping I would do something -- different. Marry, give her grandchildren, be a good housewife."

"No -- that wasn't it," Dean shrugged. "Well, that wasn't what she said."

Anna blinked, confused. "I'm not sure what you're getting at."

"She said that your job was all about murder and death." He smirked. "Clearly you haven't told her all that much about your new job."

At this, she laughed and wrapped an arm around Dean's, pulling him to the elevator and getting in, pressing the button for the ground level. "I try to avoid giving her a heart attack at 49." Yes, her mother was that young.

"I can understand why," Dean said with a laugh as he followed her lead.

As the elevator reached the bottom floor, she turned to Dean and bit her lip. "Hi."

"Hi," he said with a slight frown.

"I- uhh, I- well, I--" She stammered, about to finish her thought until the elevator doors opened and a few hurried tenants shuffled in. Holding the door open she squeezed out and waited for Dean before heading to the Impala.

Dean followed her out to the car and reached into the pocket for his keys.

Leaning against the car door, she fidgeted with the buttons on her coat. "I- I missed you." She said under her breath, unsure he heard her, but partly hoping he hadn't.

He smiled at her slightly, before opening the door for her and making his way around to the driver's side. "I missed you too."

She ducked into the car and buckled up, blushing until she gave him directions to the hotel she booked them a room at. Once Dean parked she led him inside the large hotel - which was pretty fancy by their standards but was relatively low-class compared to the rest of Manhattan's posh suites and celebrity hotels.

The room was on the tenth floor, at the end of the hall near the fire escape. It was a habit of Anna's to have all exits in reach - she felt safer - and as such was willing to pay a little extra for the spot. "Well, this is it. Welcome to Manhattan." She said as she let him in, immediately shedding her coat and shoes.

"Not bad," Dean said, looking around as he did the same.

"I find it to be much better than the usual broken-down motels we're used to staying in. It's nice to sleep someplace where you're not afraid to use the sink." She joked, heading toward the bedroom and sinking into the bed with a happy sigh. "I'm thinkin' about taking mama and Eva up on their offer to buy me a massage."

"Maybe you should," he said with a nod. "Might be nice."

"Yeah. After the last few times I got knocked around by a demonic S.O.B. I think I need one." She patted the bed next to her and sat up, hissing slightly as she felt a sharp pain in her back, below her shoulder near her ribcage.

Dean frowned slightly as he made his way closer, looking her over. "You okay?"

"Ugh, yeah. I'm- fine. Idiot tried to jump me last night in Washington Square Park. I kicked his ass all the way to Jersey." She waved it off dismissively.

"Lemme see," he said with a frown, starting to push at her shirt.

Pushing Dean's hands away she sighed and reached back, pulling the top loose from around her neck and peeling it off, revealing a medium-sized bruise - fist-like in shape - that was a dark shade of purple. Though she could hold her own against men twice her size, she was still small and thin. Therefore, she bruised a little too easily.

"Did you ice it?" he asked, placing his hands on her back gently.

"No, was too busy gettin' ready for you. Then Eva insisted we go shopping for clothes." She sighed at his hands over her strapless bra. "It'll go away in a few days. Nothin' I ain't used to."

"Still looks pretty nasty," Dean said with a sigh as he pulled back. "Do you want me to go get some ice for it?"

"No, no-- I don't want you to leave." She said quietly, looking over her shoulder at him and reaching back to place a hand on the side of his face.

"You sure?" he frowned. "I saw the ice machine on the way up, it'll take two minutes."

"Yeah." Shifting on the bed, she turned to face Dean and took his hand, gently placing it over her Devil's Trap tattoo. "I started thinking about it again, wondering if the guy who jumped me was a demon. It scared me for a minute, just how paranoid I've become now. How much I look over my shoulder now. I mean- I did it a lot as a cop, but... now it's like I'm watching for every possible hazard. I understand now. Why you're so guarded."

Dean listened, nodding slowly as she spoke. "Grow up in a business like this, and you start to get really paranoid."

"This sounds stupid, but..." She chuckled softly, shaking her head. "I feel like the only time I can stop looking over my shoulder is when we're alone like this."

"Yeah?" he said, raising an eyebrow slightly.

"Yeah. Well, I'm usually relaxed when you boys - either one or both of you - are around." She leaned in and met his eyes. "Because that's when I'm home."

Dean nodded slowly, before sitting down next to her. "Not exactly the safest place in the world to be."

"The danger just makes things a little more exciting." She teased, stretching up to kiss him softly, slipping an arm around his neck.

He leaned into the kiss a bit, sliding an arm across her waist.

"Do you want to do this? If you're tired or not feeling the mood, we can just lay down. I'll just kick off my jeans and let you change..." She murmured against his lips, scooting back on the bed more.

"Sweetheart, when am I ever not in the mood," he smirked, a bit of his bravado slipping back in as he leaned over her and started to kiss the side of her neck lightly.

Anna tilted her head back and let out a soft moan, laying back on the bed and gently pulling Dean down with her. She slipped a few fingers up under his shirt, walking her fingers over his muscles.

Dean slid over her, pushing his body into her hands as he settled in on top of her.

"Been waiting for this since I left..." She whispered and nipped at his bottom lip, pushing Dean's shirt up his back.

He pushed up slightly, pulling the shirt over his head, and then settling back in on top of her again, continuing to trail down her neck.

"Mmm..." Anna moaned, curling her fingers in Dean's hair and arching up against his body.

Dean pushed his way in closer, wrapping his arms around her as he nipped at her skin lightly.

In a swift motion, she hooked a leg around Dean's hips and ground up against him, whimpering as his fingertips brushed against the back of her bra.

He flicked the back of her bra open, sliding his hand under the edge of the material and brushing up against her skin.

It took her no more than a few seconds to toss that bra - not noticing that it landed on the lamp - and attack Dean's lips, hungry for his touch and kiss.

He leaned into the kiss and let his hands roam over her, sliding his hands down her sides to her hips.

"Dean..." She moaned, lifting her hips and pressing them into his hands more while her fingers were busy sliding over the smooth skin of his shoulders. "I want you."

One hand slid around to flick open the button of her jeans, unzipping the fly and tugging slightly to get them off her hips.

She followed his lead and got rid of her panties in the same move, laying back on the bed and watching his face while she licked her lips.

He leaned in closer to her again, his lips trailing down over her neck as he moved his hands briefly, kicking his jeans off and to the floor before moving back between her legs again, pushing himself in closer.

"You... ready for- for me?" She teased between short gasps and moans, her fingers playing idly with the band of his boxers.

"Mmmm-hmmm," he hummed against her skin, his hands wandering over her legs as he pushed his hips closer to her.

Easing the boxers down Dean's hips, she slid a hand between them to stroke his erection, purring in approval. "Oh you're definitely ready, babe."

He groaned softly, his head dropping to her shoulder as his hips bucked against her. One of his hands slid over her thigh lightly, hooking a leg over his hips.

Leaning in she bit down on his neck, fingers dancing to the head of his cock before sliding up his chest lightly.

He groaned again, sliding in closer to her before sliding inside her, using his hand on her thigh to pull her in closer.

Anna was too lost in ecstasy to realize they'd forgotten protection - but she wasn't exactly easy to knock up - so she would worry about it later. She let her forehead rest against Dean's while she bit her nails into his back and rocked her hips against him. This wasn't their first time having sex by far - but this was their first time as something more than some convenient sexual relationship. Maybe it didn't make a difference to Dean, but it did to Anna. It felt different this time. It wasn't so meaningless and rough. It felt more intimate. And she finally realized how much she'd really been holding back before she admitted she felt something for Dean.

He leaned in to kiss her deeply, his hips continuing to move against hers, his body settling into a rhythm they both liked. He could sense that there was something different, at least for her, and he wanted to try and keep that feeling as long as he could.

This moment was perfect. It felt so goddamn right, and she felt tears in her eyes. But she fought them back and kissed Dean harder, her hands slipping up to lovingly cradle his face while she hooked her other leg around his waist.

His hand slid down her thigh, pushing himself in closer and lifting her hips a little better so that he could push into her at a better angle.

She broke the kiss with a loud moan and arched up more, curling her fingers in his hair and bracing her other hand on his arm for support.

His lips moved down to her neck with a soft groan, nipping his way down her neck as he went.

"Dean-- I'm gonna--" She whimpered, dragging her nails down his back and bucking up into him.

His hand slid over her hips before slipping between them, finding her clit and brushing over it gently, hoping to continue to push her in that direction. He wasn't that far behind her, and he didn't want to whimp out on her.

"Oh god, Dean!" She cried out as she came, inner muscles clamping down around him to milk him into release.

He moaned against her neck, following her into orgasm, his arms shaking slightly, as he lowered himself down on top of her.

Sighing happily, she wrapped her arms around Dean and held him close, stroking his hair slowly. "Dean... that was--"

"Hmmmm," he murmured as he shifted slightly to get comfortable, closing his eyes as he let his head continue to rest against the side of her neck. "I do aim to please."

"You always do." She murmured and brushed a thumb over the back of his neck. Shifting a little, she pulled the covers over them and kissed his forehead.

He curled up closer to her, draping an arm across her waist and just letting himself relax.

"I have a surprise for you later." She said softly.

"Oh yeah?"

Propping up on an elbow she smiled. "Yes. I think you'll really enjoy it, Dean." She smiled and swept a thumb across his lips.

"Oh, I didn't doubt that I would enjoy it," he smirked. "I'm just surprised I have a surprise."

Blinking, she canted her head. "Why?"

He shrugged. "Not quite my birthday yet. Wasn't really expecting anything for another couple weeks."

"Consider it a... late Christmas present."

Dean frowned slightly, before nodding. "I can work with that."

Blinking, she looked at him worriedly. "Are you okay?"

His brow wrinkled slightly, and he nodded. "Yeah, I'm fantastic. Why?"

"You frowned when I said it was a late Christmas present. It- it's not a gun, I promise."

"That was more of a huh frown than a bad frown," he said with a shrug. "Sorry."

"I'm still learnin' what's what." She leaned in to kiss his forehead. "You should toss the condom, babe."

Dean paused, blinking for a moment, before pulling back the covers to look down. "Fuck."

"What?" She frowned and sat up, following his eyes. "...Oh."

He blinked slightly, before looking up and giving her a hesitant smile. "--Whoops?"

Anna didn't freak out, or even look angry. She just kissed his forehead and nodded. "It's okay, Dean."

Last time he forgot the condom, Dean was pretty sure there was a high heel chucked at his head. That wasn't the reaction he was expecting right then. "It is?"

"Yeah. It's okay, don't worry about it. I'm not mad."

"Oooookay," he said with a nod, before settling back against the bed again. "So long as you're sure." He didn't want to be murdered in his sleep either.

Anna laughed and shifted to lay back down, hissing as she felt a sharp pain above her ribs, hand immediately going to her bruise.

Dean looked worried, moving closer and getting another look at it. "You sure you don't want me to get ice for that?"

"No, I'm fine. I'll ice it later." She laid down and pulled the covers over her breasts. "And I'm not goin' to smother you in your sleep for earlier, Dean. Really, you don't have to worry about-- yeah."

"Okay," he said with a shrug, before settling in next to her and draping an arm across her waist.

She sighed and looked up at the ceiling.

Dean curled up closer, starting to drop off to sleep as he rubbed her stomach lightly.

Surprised at the hand on her stomach, she froze for a second before placing her hand over Dean's and sighing sadly, closing her eyes and letting herself fall into a brief sleep.
