Well I think like with any artistic statement, as soon as you start trying to analyze it it loses some of its power. But.... that said.
To me it means a lot of things. It speaks to hopelessness & nihilism;
but then, on the other hand, if you listen to the content/lyrics of my music, not really so much. Things are not always as they seem. You can have "trying is the first step toward failure" embody a kind of subversive optimism if you frame it in the Winston Churchill philosophy, "success is going from one failure to the next with equal enthusiasm"- because it is. That's life. Trial and error.
It's gallows humor. Which tickles my funny bone.
It also promotes a suicidal idea while at the same time debunking it (in the idea of, "oh I'm such a failure at life, I'm going to kill myself"- trying to commit suicide, and failing at that too- and having to live).
It ties in neatly with the theme of my album, which I imagine you've already read about in this very journal.
So. Layers. Lots of layers. Some people will look at it and see something appalling, because that's what they want to see. Others will chuckle, because they see the irony.
