Living in an Amish paradise

No, not really.  I've had an interesting weekend...in the Chinese sense.  10am Saturday one of my flatmates blew out the power with her blow dryer, no problem, right? You go to the fuse box, flip the switch, bingo - power.  Only the fuse box isn't in our unit, it's in the basement unit.  Where the guy hasn't been home.  And the landlord refuses to get off his ass and come and fix it.  So we've had no power in any of the bedrooms or living room for two days. The kitchen, hall and bathroom are fune.  But my bedroom, which is up in the attic, has not a hint of light once ti's hard, and only one small window, so even in day it's not bright. To this little difficutly add a piece of information that yo udon't have.  I have no night vision.  None.  Which means, while there's probably enough light from the moon or streetlights or whatever for most people to move around, to me it's pitch black.  This is super-fun!  I have a small flashlight,  Last night I had charged my laptop in the kitchen, and used the light of the screen to get changed in.  It was interesting.

Luckily there was a lot going on this weekend, so I wasnt' home mutch.  Saturday was something called Taste of the Danforth, where all the restaurants in one area bring out stalls and sell nibbles and treats. I had souvlaki and cheese and spinich pies and lemonade, Meant to go back for baklava, but forgot.  But they had a stage with belly-dancers. And i got to see two songs from Evil Dead: The Musical (now I must go see that cuz it's hilarious, has anyone been when it was in NY?)

Yesterday was a celebration of Ed Mirvish, Toronto's theatre leader (or was when he was younger) He died in July, but his company owns most of the large theatres in Toronto and brought all the big shows since Drabinsky went down for fraud,  While I don't always agree with his choices, he did do a lot for theatre here, and he is also the only Canadian for whom the lights on Broadway were dimmed when he died.  Cool.  Anyway, Michael Burgess sang, and Molly Johnson (my fave local jazz singer) and some kids from the closest performing arts college. One girl sang Life of the Party and that made me all happy, though she wasn't quite as good as Idina or Julia, still, she did a good job.  And other than her friends, and the waiter I had in the restaurant later, I was probably the only one who recognised it, cuz my friends started asking me what it was when I was bouncing on my toes. Also, we got rained on, a lot, but we still stood out there for like 5 hours.  Then we went for dinner and the waiter saw my Wicked cap and figured we'd been to the celebration, so he and I chattered away for 10 minutes while all my friends looked confused (cuz they're not so much theatre people)  and he made me promise to come to hsi show on Wednesday, and also to let him hear Julia singing LotP becasue he's now intrigued   That's me, making frineds with gay-boys wherever I go.

Now I'm at work, where there's power, which is good, but it's work, so not that good. I hope people post stuff during the day today so I can read it.
