So....day one was pretty dull. I was by myself and still wondering if I should have gone to Abergavenny the previous night instead of staying in my hotel room.
I'm going to skip what I did prior to 6pm cos it's just dull.
I stayed in my hotel room testing out my video camera - that's pretty much it.
But the time came to actually do something and go to the gig. As I had no clue where TJ's was I checked the previous night for directions. But just to be sure I started back at the train station to make sure I was going the right way.
Luckily for me, TJ's was just across the bridge from where I was staying so yay. I met up with
valderys and
gwene at the door where there was already a small group of people waiting. After a general catch-up, the topic of conversation turned to Doctor Who and the trailer for the next episode. That led to two squeeing fangirls and one confused one (
gwene not me). Then more people began to arrive as time went on - I am rubbish with names, major sorry - and it was just nice to finally have some company.
It was then I found out about what the weather had been like in Abergavenny - wet - so I was glad for a bit that I didn't go cos it would have made me feel worse. What I was told later on however, changed that (see
valderys for the reason why) but I was just glad to be there in Newport.
The doors were supposed to open at 7pm - notice how I said supposed to there - but it was about 7.45pm by the time they let us in. We were greeted by Spencer, who was maybe a bit drunk at that point, and he had a bit of a chat with us while they were trying to deal with the two sets of people coming in - those with tickets already and those without - which they did really well considering the small space inside the door before the main part of TJ's and the amount of people all coming in at once.
We all sat down for a few minutes - cos we'd been standing for so long - and got some drinks in and had a bit more of a chat.
We moved from our bench thing - which moved btw, causing me to almost end up in a heap on the floor (not good) - to our 'spot' next to the speakers. While we were moving, the first band The Death Of Her Money were setting up.
We soon discovered that the drummer doesn't turn down a chance to dance - does he
valderys? I tried to film it, or even just get a pic but the light facing that way wasn't good enough for my cameras (yes plural) to work right :(
But it set the tone for the night - everyone there was up for a good time.
Their actual performance was really good. I did have a bit of trouble making out what was being sang but I didn't really care to be honest - it sounded really good so that was enough for me. That's their sound and it works for them so it's all good
Little bit of a break (bar) then Disgracelands
OMFG!!!!!!!!!!
THEY ARE AMAZING!! I had heard their stuff online obviously but to hear it live was just incredible on an epic scale. To anyone who hasn't seen them yet first chance you get GO. Seriously - you won't be sorry one bit.
My favourite song of theirs has to be 'Potent Poetry'. I do have a vid of it on my YouTube channel so go have a look
