A question for you: Why are we here?

Interpret that any way you want.  Here in the City, here in a universe, here in the way in which we have the subjective experience of existing in a place.  Philosophical, practical, meaningful, empty--answer with the first reason that comes to mind.

If you weren't experiencing life (or the sort-of life the City gives), would you really be experiencing nothing? Nothing wouldn't be registered by whatever is you--your soul, or whatever you want to believe. Is that nonexistence?
