My apologies to anyone who either found themselves in my dream (or found me in theirs) or were inconvenienced by my disappearance.

In three days, I will have been here for two years.

[Police Force Filter]

I'll return to work tomorrow.  Sorry for the unannounced absence.

I'm... all right, really. I'm all right. How are you?

Recovered from the curses?

To be honest, I've been better.

More or less. I'm... I wanted to say, I'm sorry, about my dream. About all the things I said.

Because of the curses? Or...?

Don't worry. You didn't say anything untrue.

...Various things.

I said a lot of things I didn't mean.

You must have meant it on some level. The subconscious seldom lies.

Sometimes what you want to believe is more important than what you do believe. I said things I don't want to be true, whether or not they could be.

That brings belief and truth into question. I never would have guessed that, subconsciously, you're a nihilist, but I also don't know if you truly are a nihilist. When you're awake, do you live by the things you want to believe, or by what you truly believe?

I've told you the philosophies I live by. I try make the most of every day. The kinds of things I said in the dream... I think of them, sometimes, I wonder whether what I do makes any difference, but I don't let myself be swayed by that. Not as long as I can help it, at least. Does that make sense?

It does, I think, even if it's... counterintuitive, in a way. I don't understand how you hold on to the philosophies you prefer when the darker ones you appear to have some belief in nag at you.

Being happy is hard work. But it's much better than being unhappy.

That's one of the most profound things you've ever said.
