The investment arm of Aviva (the UK's second largest insurance company) accidentally
fired all 1300 of its employees by e-mail, when they meant to let just one of them go. It was retracted almost immediately, with a follow-up e-mail apologizing for the mistake.
In the meantime, I'm left wondering if firing people by e-mail is the way things are done at Aviva. The article doesn't make that clear, saying it was "part of the company’s administration process when people leave the organization". I wasn't even sure if it was legal to fire people that way, but apparently it is - it's just considered really tacky. Of course, if you're being fired anyway, do you care if they're being tacky about it?
