Swiss scientists have figured out how to do what Rumplestiltskin couldn't - make fabric from
gold. Actually, it's gold-coated polyester, but I don't think their customers will care much. Basically, a chunk of gold is bombarded with high-velocity argon ions, causing individual gold atoms to go flying off as plasma to coat a thread being pulled past. So far, they've made enough gold thread for three ties, and another dozen ties should be ready for Christmas. At CHF7500 (about $8550 CDN at current exchange rates), that's one expensive tie. Now, if they can figure out how to make a tuxedo out of it...
