According to this, human males (or rather, their predecessors) once had "small penile spines", similar to chimpanzees, cats, and mice, but the DNA sequence thought to be responsible has somehow been "deleted" from human genes. Penile spines are exactly what they sound like - barb-like structures on the penis.

Ouch, indeed.
