despite my plans to stay in yesterday, things got re-arranged, and i ended up going out into Osaka with the lovely Barbara. we had a good time even in the rain! the most amazing thing though was that she took me to a place called Slices, a Canadian restaurant where i had the most amazing meal i've had in a while.
first off, we had poutine. i haven't had that delicious mix of fried potatoes, gravy and cheese in a least 3 years. soooo good, i practically wanted to lick the plate.
the main dish though was the pizza, for which the restaurant is named. you buy large slices (and we mean canadian large, not measly japanese large) and while they were more expensive than a slice back home, it was worth every yen. this was the best pizza i have eaten since coming to japan because:
1. There was no corn on it.
2. There was no mayonnaise on it.
3. There was no squid on it.
4. It had real sauce, not a ketchup-like substance.
5. It had cheese all over the slice, not just one blob of cheese in the center.
6. The crust did not flake apart in my hand like a pastry.
7. The toppings were things I'd actually want on a pizza...I had Hawaiian with ham (done properly, not uncooked!) and pineapple.
While the poutine, pizza and drink came to roughly $10 US, i couldn't complain. the pizza cravings i've been having for months now finally know where they can go to be fulfilled. thank you, dJesus, as Barbara might say.
the rest of the day was spent shopping for fun this and thats, and watching the storm through the window on the train ride home. we timed our trip well, because we passed through the worst part on the train, and got to himeji which was still relatively dry and headed back home.
today it's bright and clear here in Fukusaki, but we might just be in the eye of the storm, as my friends over at the frisbee tournament say the weather up there is awful. i'm gonna go do laundry while the sun lasts though! then, i'll be back for Special Chord Club photos at last! whee!
