I'm spending the day writing at the Riverside Perk and it's wonderful!
The whole place reminds you of a coffee shack you'd find on the coast: big, industrial-y counters and picture frame hangings with Kansas colors. Eggplant caulking ceiling, harvest colored walls with barn red accents, red squashy chairs. They have an old-fashioed espresso machine like Jeff Isaacson, who runs Kamp Grounds Coffee at bluegrass, has us use: you pull a huge silver lever down to pull the shots; a tempermental machine that requires the barista to have a very, very close relationship with it, like your best girlfriend. Hmm, what else? Oldies on the radio, a barista with a backward grandpa hat, people playing ball outside with their kids.
And all next to the damn Arkansas river.
