Six Things I'm Glad I Did:
1. I'm glad I moved to Seattle for a little while after college. Sure, being roommates with my ex boyfriend and his girlfriend at the time was a shaky living situation at best, but I did a lot of exploring on my own. I hopped on random buses to see where they went. I visited Alki beach. My friends introduced me to Wilco and Belgian fries in a paper cone. We lived near Bauhaus Books + Cafe, one of my favorite coffee shops to date. Seattle is so dreamy in the summer. Even when it rains, it's a gentle rain.
2. I'm glad I've had my heart broken, good and broken, a few times in my life. Knowing what love is not helps me identify real love when I see it.
3. I'm glad I didn't chicken out on the first day that Megs taught hula hooping at work. There was a free class after work to try hula hooping, and, overcome with a wave of shyness, I almost walked by the room without stopping in. So glad I gave myself a pep talk and went into class.
4. I'm glad that my first roller coaster ride was with my first love. Even though we weren't dating any more at that time, we were still good friends and he held my hand through it. I'm glad that roller coaster ride was the Queen of the Prairie at Joyland.
5. I'm glad I was a vegetarian for five years or so.
6. I'm glad I moved to the Pacific NW, even though I will not live here forever. I've learned to appreciate the greenery, to hate the rain, to love kimchi and quietness and insular ways. Living here has made me more quiet and introspective.
