Today, I thought I'd share some old photos and memories. These photos came from my Thanksgiving in 2006, when I first met Raymond's grandpa. He passed away about two weeks ago, and I just wrote a blog about him.
What luck that I took these pictures the first time that I met him. I was still falling in love with my Canon SLR, and I thought the trip to Ulysses would be a perfect opportunity to capture western Kansas on film.
Here's a wind farm west of Greensburg, Ks. There's no way to capture the magnitude of a wind turbine on film. Every picture you take of one looks so small and delicate, but just the engine of a turbine is the size of a school bus. Creepy and cool...at the same time.
And this pie picture? From the same trip. I took this pie to Thanksgiving dinner, and I felt the need to document it, even though I wouldn't get the idea to blog about food for another two years. It's funny how these things work out. I still love that pie plate, even though it's got a giant crack in the middle of it. I miss the light from that house on west 21st street. In the winter, you could open the floor-to-ceiling vertical blinds and the whole dining room would fill with cool, white light. It was great for pictures of things on the kitchen table.
Check that stuff out. It looks so goooood, and there was no flash a-tall. Our new place is dreamy and well-lit, but the kitchen is always a little shadowy and it doesn't turn out well without a flash. I need to find a new favorite place to photograph food. I don't know how
Allison Ebright does it; she must be a photo whiz...or use Photoshop magic.
