Also dude I spent the last half hour of Inception with my eyes shut (the camerawork made me sick after an hour), only opening them when my movie companion informed me "Arthur and/or Eames is onscreen", and am currently in love with a show/game about fabulous, gay samurais. Not exactly hallmarks of great taste or keen wit!
I did watch it with another consultant and we both agreed it was pretty engaging despite the flaws, but Cobb just didn't work for us, especially not to the point where he took over the movie and none of the other characters mattered. I guess he reminded us both of the worst type of project manager you could ever hope to work for - delusional, egoistic, selfish and manipulative. Which makes for an interesting character but not team leader! (Also a terribly fake-earnest parent, it was painful to watch him on the phone talking to 'his kids')
Yea lol basically if you cut the movie in two pieces (beginning--->rescuing saito) and (waking up in the plan--->end), the first bit was mostly ACTION THRILLER / UNCOVER MY MYSTERIOUS PAST, and there was so much of it that though I understood the second bit was going to be the 'mindfuck' bit, it was just too brief and too insubstantial to feel satisfying.
(OTOH I laughed like hell at small things, like when Fischer had to fill out an immigration form because he is ~Australian~ what hilarious attention to detail)
Ah, by the two-parts thing I mean, I too wanted a happi endo after the tedious action thriller bit; thus was very annoyed to be forced to think instead xD;
i kind of feel like the authors meant for it to be open to interpretation, but personally i prefer it more as a story with closure, even if i don't know why we were meant to like cobb or think that he deserves any XD
I would just like to note that I have only ever seen wassisface in two roles: first as the kid from 3rd Rock, then in Mysterious Skin, where he reminded me in equal parts of Josh Hartnett and the kid from 3rd Rock (did not know that it WAS him!)
I am perfectly prepared to accept that he has heated up some since then. *g*
I am writing her an email RIGHT NOW
