St Louis, the gateway to the West.
( as we found out, its not pronounced the French way, it is actually called Saint Lewis) ooops, no wonder ppl wondered what we were going on about!
Well, we arrived from Indy in the afternoon, of the Sunday 14th,
And we decided to go downtown exploring,
We walked form the Huckleberry Finn Youth Hostel into town, (only finding out later it was supposed to be a dodgy area of town.)
this is the city hall
and this is the police station
We took some shiny pics of the Arch and the old court house, and the pretty fountains.
Then we walked over to the riverside! DUDE it’s the Mississippi! (oh yeah I remembered how to spell it from my school days!)
Then we got REALLY hungry and had some food, then walked back to the hostel,
We found that the girl in the dorm with us was from like 1 mile from where I live back home!
Conversation went a bit like this…
So where you from?
England
Oh me too,
Where?
Newcastle
Oh me too,
Well its more like Gateshead but no-one ever knows where that is..
Oh me too..
Really? Where?
Low Fell.
No???? REALLY???? Me to!!!
So that was fun!
She was busy downloading her pics on to her laptop too, as her friend Ben (lovely French guy) was a photographer and had taken LOTS of pics.
He had his camera with him, and then silliness ensued as I was getting JackBear ready for bed, JackBear had a sexy photo shoot with Ben… heheh! ITS NOT MY FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next day we walked into town again. And were surprised as to how DEAD the town is, no shops, no people, everything closing at 3 or 4pm, only Starbucks was open to late. It was REALLY bizarre, we nicknamed this town the “Deadtown” as there wasn’t anyone here, it also encourages the fact that it is a Vampire town, and all the ppl have to be home before dark! Heheh! (Anita Blake books are the real reason we came to St Louis!!! I’m not denying that!)
It was raining! Our first rain of the holiday! (well it was more like drizzle) And where were our coats?? At the bottom of the suitcase! Oh well!!
cant really see the rain in these pics but it was light drzzle as i said!
We went up the Gateway Arch! Dude it’s a good view from the top! You could see for miles! And when you leaned over and looked out the windows you could see underneath and behind yourself! It was a VERY strange feeling!
Under the ground in at the base of the arch is a cool museam so we investigated
We took a few more pics of the dead town, and tryed to find a cafe, and saw a really cool sign, but unfortunatly it was still closed!!!
and then went back to the hostel and watched Heroes (humm there is a pattern emerging… Heroes is good! Beka is now fully addicted to it! Mwaaa haaa haa!!! Hiro is FAB! We love him)
Next day we go for a riverboat ride on the Mississippi,
first we had lunch at an all american diner!
it was a little colder so we wore our coats, which was good as on the boat it was quite windy.
this is a casino boat! oooh shiny!
After the boat ride we decided to find the build-a-bear shop as JackBear wanted to go!!!
we went bt Metro, and yes it really was called Metro this time!!!
We found a Mall!!!! Huzzah! Shops! Yea! JackBear found himself a backpack and some sunglasses! And the shop turns out to be the VERY first build-a-bear workshop in existence! How cool is that??? We have now been to the Biggest one and the First Ever one, and JackBear has had his passport stamped in both! Yea!
JackBear finds a Mini Watertower and it reminds him of the one in Cardiff so he has a pic
When we get back to the hostel, JackBear wants to try on all the clothes we got for Ianto and Doctor bears, I couldn’t stop him, so I took pics of how cute he looked!
JackBear in IantoBears Clothes
JackBear in DoctorBear's clothes
I kept my eyes open for vampires and warewolves and wareleopards but I didn’t see any, I did find the police station and court houses thou, and I did spy a federal Marshall, she had a gun too, but she didn’t look like Anita! Was still fun thou!
Thus ended our time at St Louis.
We got the bus next day to Dallas (overnight bus trips!!! Yea)
