That is just insane.....I can't believe Will Smith was able to make a good movie after MiB(first one, second one was horrible). Yes, I was very sad yesterday, no servers were up........
I don't understand why so many people hate Will Smith so much that they would refuse to see a movie because he's in it. Independence Day was one of the best movies of all time, and MIB was awsome too. I, Robot may not have had much to do with the book (which was great in it's own right), but it was an good movie, definitely much better than I thought it would be.
Maybe your opinion will help persuade some friends of mine to see it.
I agreee with everything except with Independence day. It's one of the worst movies ever made. Entertaining, but nothing else. (sorry, I had to say it, I really had the urge).
First off, let me say that I agree completely with freedom of speech and that everyone is entitles to their own opinion. That said:

WHAT!? (:P) How have you SEEN some of the trash that people call movies that come out in the hundreds every year? In what way is Independance Day, a classic "first-encounter" movie, which set the precedent for so many others, "one of the worst movies ever made"? Besides, what else are movies for? What about Star Wars or Jurrasic Park (the first one)? Or LotR?
I have an Issue with cinema being only entertaing... but that is just personal (my friends call me pedantic for that matter... and some others :P). I love all the films you mention, though, but sorry, I just can't stand ID. I don't know exactly why, some of my friends tried to make me like it, but I can't.
lol alright now I KNOW your crazy ;P. How on earth somone can think that Mars Arracks, one of the movies I include in the "trash that people call movies", is good, while ID4 is not, is beyond my comprehension. Whatever floats your boat... more power to you... etc. ^_o

Well, when I say "one of the best movies of all time" what I actually meant was, "one of the best movies of all time". As in one of many. Many many. Alfred Hitchcock, Vincent Price, John Huston (loved Rio Bravo), John Sturges, all those were great. As are the more modern Speilberg and Lucas and Shamalon. But regardless of "classic" movies, I still believe that Independence Day (I don't know why ID4 either; just used it because its shorter) is a great movie, the way Jurassic Park was a great movie. Because when it first came out, it was awsome. The air battles, the aliens, the whole "first encounter = mass destruction" theme was, in effect, RESTARTED by Independence Day, ever since The War of the Worlds, and at the same time was very original. It had great actors (Will Smith is a great actor, no matter how much you may hate him as a person, and Jeff Goldblum is my favorite living actor, side by side with Christopher Walken), it had romance without ever getting too sappy, it had a great soundtrack, the tragedies were real and heartfelt

M. Night Shaymalan's films are good, but definately not classics. The Villiage, entertaining but predictable. Signs, one of the worst endings I have ever seen! I was completely disappointed. And I agree with most of you that Mars Attacks kinda sucked and ID4 (Named so for the 4th of July, which we call Independance Day here in the USA) is a very over-rated movie. It was entertaining, but that's about it. Speilberg is great... everything except A.I. which blew donkey nuts. Want some good "MODERN CLASSICS"? Check these out...
Drama - City Of Angels, Frequency Comedy - Super Troopers, So I Married An Axe Murderer Action - The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy Suspense - The Usual Suspects Horror - The Ring, Scream Sports - Remember The Titans, Rudy, Varsity Blues (it's great, trust me)
On a side note, Will Smith is a good actor, I just think he is a little over the top sometimes. I think Hollywood pushes him to be that way, but the guy can definately act when he has a decent role to play.
Haha, I love at the end of Independence Day, and his laptop is saying "Uploading Virus" with a little progress bar, then when its done, a skull and crossbones pops up. Just like real life.
