Last night was the season opener for my spring kickball league. Last year I participated in the summer league and got to know a great group of people. These people have since become some of my closest friends. We've gone to Lutsen together, we've done Halloween and New Year's, and we're going to go camping for Memorial Day Weekend. A lot of the girls are also in my "Babes N Books" book club. I can't imagine not having these friends in my life! So I was very excited for the first game of the season. I was getting butterflies in my tummy just driving to the field.
I left work at the valet office early so I could go home, pick up some adult beverages, and then get to the field in time. I was one of the first to arrive at the field and drinks were opened. Everyone arrived on time and we also had 2 puppies and a baby in attendance.
The weather could not have been more perfect for a mid-April day in Minneapolis: mid-50s, light breeze, and sun sun sun! It was perfect weather for track pants, a long sleeved t-shirt, and our signature "Playground Bullies" t-shirts.
We had a few newbies this year and everyone proved to be up to the challenge and ready to play! Yours truly is the pitcher. It took me a few innings to get my pitches consistently straight, but I think I did a pretty good job! My team is very supportive of me and even hassles the other team when they're too picky with pitches. I'm not a very good kicker so being a pitcher makes me feel like I can help out the team.
We had a few home runs and a lot of great catches and ended up winning the game 9-3. Technically, including last season, this is our third win. Yeah...we're not usually the best team. But what a great way to start off the season!
And the only time I felt like defecting from my team was when the next team came and had a cooler full of PBR...
