I am made of Fail today - well this morning I was made of Fail. I didn't even hear my alarm go off nor do I remember it doing so at all. I am pretty certain I set it last night too. I rolled over and opened my eyes and saw that the clock said something like 6:33am. I was supposed to be leaving in about ten minutes.
It was one of those moments where you think that your clock is lying to you and so you (in my case) squint at it so you can see it more clearly and you stare at it but the time did not change from 6:33 to 5:33, what it should have been.
So I got up and got ready as fast as I could and, partly due to traffic, I was about twenty five minutes late which means that I will be staying later today than usual to make up the time. *sigh* Oh well.
Good House episode last night.
"You're an ass. But you're a noble one." :D
But that's not really what I'm talking about. I'm a tad twitchy and that's not because I accidentaly slept in a little.
Regarding the latest Star Trek film to be released next year. Well, first of all, this is not a rant. These are just some of my thoughts on it.
I think I've finally come to realize what my problem is regarding this film besides the fact that it is directed by J.J. Abrams. I think I've gotten over that bit of it. But then again, I haven't seen it yet.
I digress!
Yesterday, I told our head of shipping guy here about the latest ST movie trailer and that he could dig it up online if he wanted. He came up to me today and told me that he saw it, says it looks awesome and he also said, "It looks like it'll be better than all of the other Star Trek movies."
He also thought that The Wrath of Kahn was Star Trek III rather than II so...
At any rate that is what got me to thinking...again.
First of all I'd like to emphasise the fact that I am looking forward to this film despite whatever I've said or will say and that I am SO excited that Star Trek is going to be back on the big screen again. :D
My beef with it, however, is two things. First, I have read and heard all over the place that they are "reinventing" Star Trek with this film. It's going to be more updated with the times to attract a younger generation to the series.
That's cool. Roddenberry did that before twenty years after the original series had aired. Hence the name The Next Generation and it ended up bringing in an entirely new audience while also being satisfactory to the old audience as well.
The difference between those two "reinventings" is that TNG was an entirely new cast, different ship, different time period, different everything and it still worked. It worked well. It worked better than the original series did when it first aired. That's what reinventing something is. You take the same universe and make a new story out of it, take it from a different angle, the whole shabang.
That's why I don't see this film as being a reinvention (I do apologize for using that word so much. lol) of the old Star Trek. They are taking original characters, ships, the original idea and are buffing it up, sticking some youth in it and making it more shiny.
No, I haven't seen it yet and I will probably love it. I am quite aware of that. At the same time, however, if characters and plot lines are changed as we already know the look of it has changed in this film I'm afraid that we'll have the Star Wars prequel syndrome all over again.
What I mean by that is younger kids and teenagers who saw the SW prequels before they saw the Original Trilogy (oh yes, they do exist) got to like Star Wars because of the prequels. BUT when they eventually did see the Original Trilogy they ended up thinking it was lame and not as cool as the prequels. *runs away screaming and pulling at hair!*
Do you see what I mean by that? I just don't want the entire universe this film is based on to be completely forgotten because of how changed this film will possibly make it.
These are just concerns of course. I am looking forward to this film and I really hope it does well. It may also be completely awesome and not change a thing besides how things look and I am totally okay with that. I just don't like characters and history stuff to be messed with.

Know what I mean?
And I'm sorry, but unless some Borg or maybe a reincarnated Shinzon wander into this film at some point and start poking at Kirk and Spock then it is not the best Trek film. lol
I've been sneezy and drowsy all day even during the safety video we watched earlier this morning. It concerned drug and alcohol abuse in the work place. Unfortunately I am showing some of the symptoms they said to watch for in the video. Blood shot eyes, disheveled appearance, looking tired, acting cranky...
I hope I'm not recommended for drug testing. I'm just high on death at the moment.
