"Religion...thats a hard subject to deal with."
-Aaron Lee. (or something like that)
You know, it honestly is. When you honestly say "Why do I believe" and try to give the honest answers, I think alot of people will not be happy with their answers. To be fair and not point fingers at others, I gave a horrible one when I first asked myself this. When all was said and done, I believed because I was raised around it and always assumed it to be true. Now, it did not honestly affect me until late my sophmore year of high school even then I did not have much reason to believe other than an emotional move to do so.
I think now I take all my doubts, worries, insufficiencies, and do what most people have to do: choose. I can either say "I cannot believe or I can." I think Christianity makes sense, but I cannot say "Its obvious its true." While aspects of it are (a god exists) I believe, without much else, that the stories of Abraham are true, that Noah built his ark, and that Jesus came to die for my sins thus covering me in his holiness.
A friend of mine said "why do you need someone else to show you the Bible is true?" My only worry about that is the same if my friends tell me a story. If an untrustworthy person says something happened, should I not first check it out? Likewise, I think its reasonable to wonder whether the Bibles authors were trustworthy people. Or did they simply feel hopeless when their leader was killed, so they invented a story?
I choose to believe, but are these unreasonable questions, ones that make me less Christian? I hope not.
